Cement Truck Slides Down Hill & Catches Fire

June 26, 2010

Around noon on Thursday June 24th, a cement truck burst into flames after sliding over an embankment in St David’s. Fortunately the truck driver, a 38 year old St. George’s man, was uninjured as he managed to get out of the vehicle before the front end was engulfed in flames.

The Police say that it appears that the cement truck was delivering a load of cement to a Ballast Point Road residence. As the truck attempted to leave the area it failed to make it up a hill, sliding back down and going over an embankment and catching on fire. As a result the cement truck entered the main road, disrupting traffic for a time.

The Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service attended the scene and extinguished the fire, which resulted in the front end of the cement truck being extensively damaged. No further Police action is anticipated.
