On Friday, March 27, CedarBridge Academy hosted its 2026 Career Fair in the school gymnasium, under the theme “Discover, Decide, Do!” The event connected students with local businesses, professionals, and organizations, offering in-depth information, free industry samples, and even some hands-on experiences across a wide range of career pathways.
Participating companies included Mailboxes, Barritt’s, Bananas Party, the Bermuda Parks Department, Butterfield & Vallis, KPMG, the Bermuda Police Service, the Royal Bermuda Regiment, the Bermuda Department of Corrections, and many, many more. Industries across the island were represented at the fair, and the interactive experiences on offer were a fantastic feature of this event.
Deputy Principal Christopher B. Swan praised the Learning Support and Student Services Departments for their forward-thinking approach. He singled out Ms. Shundria D. Somner, Ms. Dominique Richardson, and Ms. Kerri Seymour, saying their dedication and teamwork were instrumental in bringing the event to life.
Organiser Shundria Somner shared her enthusiasm: “I really enjoy organising these career fairs! This is my third year, and every year it just seems to get better. Last year we had 20 companies; this year we had 32. The day is filled with positive vibes, and I enjoy watching students engage with vendors from various industries – the students, after all, are who I really do it for!
“From small companies like Street Vybez to major corporations like KPMG, there’s something here for everyone’s interest.”
Students were equally impressed. Head Boy Terry Charlemagne described the fair as “one of our biggest so far,” highlighting the variety of industries represented, from finance and agriculture to hospitality and law enforcement. “The responses we’re getting from both companies and students are very pleasing,” he said, noting that the Bermuda Police Service booth – with its motorcycles – was a personal favorite.
S3 student Jada Smith enjoyed the free stuff on offer, and the exposure to new opportunities – she was particularly impressed with the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club presentation. S1 student Mioshe Fubler found the experience “amazing” and a valuable introduction to different careers and ways people earn a living.
Hands-on learning and entrepreneurship were key features. Bananas Party, an event planning and bartending service, brought an interactive mobile bar, teaching students how to mix mocktails while learning about the hospitality industry. The team praised students’ curiosity and engagement, calling the experience “exciting” and informative.
Creative industries also made an impression. Stephan Johnston of SJD World noted that introducing students to graphic and web design not only inspires future career paths but can also lead to internships and employment. He described the student engagement as “great,” while adding the caveat: “You can tell the ones that are interested, and that’s been really good.”
Hospitality professionals from Hamilton Princess & Beach Club highlighted interactive stations that went beyond traditional roles, including housekeeping challenges and engineering demonstrations. Director of Learning and Development Nishanthi Bailey said the interactions were “awesome,” and that the information shared would give students practical insights into the hotel industry.
Law enforcement and public service careers generated significant interest. Gary Moreno, Spokesperson for the Bermuda Police Service noted that students were surprised by the range of opportunities within policing, from forensics and narcotics to specialized units, as well as competitive salaries, training, and career mobility.
Mr Moreno added, “I think that the 2026 CBA Career Fair should serve as a model for other schools.” While also praising the engagement and interaction from the students.
Representatives from the Royal Bermuda Regiment also impressed students with diverse career options. Lieutenant Leanne Tucker highlighted new units like the Coast Guard and Unmanned Systems [drone] unit, along with roles in music, leadership, and public relations.
The 2026 CedarBridge Academy Career Fair was widely celebrated for its interactive approach and inspiring opportunities. By connecting students with professionals and showcasing real-world applications of classroom learning, the event provided an engaging and informative platform for students to explore their futures.
