Police Also Present in “42nd” Area
With tensions on the streets extremely high following the Aug 9th murder of Troy “Yankee” Rawlins, one of Court Street’s most well known individuals, the Police appear to be monitoring two of the centrally located “hot spots.”
In addition to the near-constant Police presence that has been seen on Court Street since the murder of Mr. Rawlins, as the weekend draws near the Police appear to have also established a presence in the St Monica’s Mission area, colloquially known as 42nd.
As of 3:45pm this afternoon [Aug 12], there is one parked Police car, and multiple Police officers can been seen standing in two separate areas of St Monica’s Mission Road, a presence Bernews had not previously noted despite multiple checks on our part.
Bernews understands from numerous street sources that individual[s] who are somehow affiliated with the area may be suspected in two of the three shootings that occurred this past weekend, and whether this is true or not is yet to be determined, however we understand many in the gang circles are alleging this to be the case.

GOOD….but they should be in every neighborhood….hire more cops…hire hire hire!
Come on Brasco get real.
The Government just borrowed $500 Million dollars. Were up to our eyeballs in debt.
You want to hire more and more and more? They would have to be experienced not rookies. Rookies are great and have to learn. It’s all part of the process.
At $70,000 each and the equipment they would require it would further the debt.
I better stop before someone makes a decision and brings in the Iniskillin Foozalerz
I don’t think its a matter of not being able to afford more police officers, I believe its a matter of where will they come from. The Police Dept has had way too many issues from their foreign cops and I’m sure they are trying to sway away from bringing a whole lot more in!!! We need more Bermudians willing to step to the plate…I know it takes a certain type of people to become a police officer but I think thats the only option we have.
I would have to also agree with terry, we need seasoned cops to deal/handle the situations of today…..Someone new will only hinder the process.
When it comes to man power I think the Commissioner of Police is stuck between a rock and Bermuda (a hard place). I feel for the man…he is getting pulled apart by the country he serves and the criminals who are (these days) spewing out of the wood works!!!
Bermuda’s problem is that beat cops are carrying mace and a night-stick to a gunfight. The minimum requirements must be raised and training must be improved to include mandatory firearms proficiency. There is a need for standard issue firearms in the BPS. Armed response vehicles are not plentiful enough to deter criminals and the ERT cannot patrol the streets in full-clad gear. Until every officer is given training and a firearm there will be no stopping the violence.
With 7 police officers per 1,000 people, Bermuda is already the third most ‘policed’ country in the world. At 21 sq miles and only a handful of offenders, everybody (including the Police) knows who the troublemakers are. It’s a matter of people saying enough is enough and starting to police their own neighbourhoods – starting with their households…
We spend so much time talking out of both sides of our mouths, condemning the behaviour and saying that “he was a good boy” in the same breath. If anybody needs a no-nonsense approach, it’s the community.
COMPLETELY AGREEING WITH YOU!!!! ITS’S TIME BERMUDA NEIGHBORHOODS START TAKING THEM BACK.
When I was younger my neihbors were allowed to cut my a$$ if I got disrespectful. Then I’d have to go home and face another one from my mother with the “fanny whacker” (licking stick)
The days of others cutting your childs backsides is gone because mothers / fathers feel its their place (which they fail to do…
