PGA Grand Slam: Cricketer Brian Lara To Play
The man with the highest individual score in first-class cricket will attempt to shoot low at the Port Royal Golf Course when he participates in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf Pro-Am, October 18th, 2010. International cricket sensation Brian Lara will play the event as a guest of Premier Dr Ewart Brown and the Bermuda Department of Tourism.
“I was playing a round in Trinidad during the April 2009 Summit of Americas,” Premier Brown explained. “Lara was playing ahead of me and when I got to the clubhouse I met him and invited him to play in the 2009 Grand Slam Pro-am. “He was unable to make it last year but has confirmed that he’ll be in Bermuda this year. I am excited that this sports icon will join us and see for himself why Port Royal has generated so much buzz.”
Director of Golf at Port Royal Andrew Brooks said: “It is a great honor to have a sportsman of Brian Lara’s status visit Port Royal Golf Course for the 2010 Grand Slam of Golf. As a player he rewrote the record books, becoming one of the most exciting batsmen to play cricket. Now an ambassador for Trinidad & Tobago sports development, we look forward to welcoming a sportsman of his caliber to Bermuda.”
Brian Lara is a West Indian international cricket player who topped the Test batting rankings on several occasions and holds several cricketing records, holds the record for the highest individual score in first-class cricket, with 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston in 1994, which is the only quintuple hundred in first-class cricket history.
The PGA Grand Slam of Golf takes place October 18th – 20th. Daily tickets for individual day attendance will be available for $20 on Monday for the Champions Clinic and Pro-Am and each day for Tuesday and Wednesday competition days (or $50 for all three days).Tickets are available at Pgagrandslamofgolf.com or the Port Royal Golf Course.
