Bermuda Goodwill Golf: Day 1

The 58th Bermuda Goodwill began today [Dec 7] in fine fashion as a total of 67 teams were treated to better than predicted weather conditions. The increasing popular ladies division has increased to a total of eight; the teams will play four courses during the week; Port Royal Golf Club; Belmont Hills; Tucker’s Point and Mid Ocean. LPGA Legend and Halls of Famer, Amy Alcott is the host of the event and will be on hand for a book signing on Thursday evening at the Fairmont Southampton from 630pm-8pm.

1st Round Results of the Bermuda Goodwill Golf Tournament 2010 are as follows:

Low Professional – Junior Division
Golf Professional, Andy Fisher representing The Country Club-B, MA posted 20 points in his first round to lead the junior professional division by one shot over Matthew Sita out of Nassau CC-B, NY who came in with 19 points. Both played their first round at Belmont Hills. Tied for third on 17 points are Riddell’s Bay and Fairmont Golf Director, Anthony Mocklow and Port Royal’s Dwayne Pearman who both played at Tucker’s Point Golf Club.

Low Professional – Senior Division
Senior Golf Professional’s from Rhode Island Clubs, Alpine, Tom O’Connor and Scott Spence from Carnegie Abbey is tied at the top on 15 points having played the difficult Tucker’s Point in their first round. Tied for third is Adam Brown from National GC of Canada – B Team and Bill King from Spring Lake GC, NJ who are only one back on 14 points. They also played Tucker’s Point Club.

Low Professional – Ladies Division
Georgia resident and guest of Riddell’s Bay Golf Club, leads the ladies professional division by two points after posting a respectable 12 points at Tucker’s Point Club today. In second place, playing for South Fork CC-C team, NY is Kate O’Sullivan who posted 10 points at Belmont. Sugarbush Resort GC-B from Vermont Golf Professional Monique Thoresz is in third by herself after recording 6 points at Belmont.

Gross Team – Junior Division
Carnegie Abbey from RI lead by Professional Scott Spence and amateurs Mark Horan; Joe Maston and Peter Parker lead the tough gross division after posting a 5 under 65 in their first round at Tucker’s Point Club. Tied for second are two teams that played at Belmont with 3 under are Philadelphia Cricket Club, B Team lead by golf professional Mark Matricardi and amateurs Jeff Beck, Dave Buck and Bill Casey and The B team from The Country Club, MA lead by professional Andy Fisher and amateurs Kenneth Burnes, Edward White and David Rowe.

Net Team – Junior Division
There is a two way tie at the top in the coveted Net Division. Carnagie Abbey from Rhode Island and South Fork CC-B out of NY both fired 10 under par’s to give them a slim one shot lead after day one. Carnegie Abbey who played at Tucker’s Point is lead by professional Scott Spence, Mark Horan, Joe Maston and Peter Parker. South Fork CC B from NY playing their first round at Belmont Hills are lead by golf professional Pat Sams and amateurs Graham Griffin, Bruce Kirstein and Avron Brog. Alpine CC playing at Tucker’s Point is at 9 under. Alpine consist of Professional Tom O’Connor and amateurs Don Coletti, Don Coletti Jr. and Bob De Simone

Gross Team – Senior Division
National Golf Club of Canada-B team lead by professional Adam Brown assisted by his members Al Riverso, Alex Karpuchin and Ed Kremblewski fired an impressive 3 under gross today at Tucker’s Point to lead by five shots over the team from the Bedrock GC who also played Tucker’s Point, finishing at 2 over. Bedrock is lead by long time visiting Professional Joe Carr aided by his trusted team of Tim “Hack” McDonnell; Marty McGrann and Rob Tidgewell.

Net Team – Senior Division
The National Golf Club of Canada-B team also lead the net division after recording a 7 under net at Tucker’s Point Club. The National is lead by professional Adam Brown assisted by his members Al Riverso, Alex Karpuchin and Ed Kremblewski. Two shots back on 5 under also playing Tucker’s Point is the team from Bedrock GC, MA lead by long time visiting Professional Joe Carr aided by his trusted team of Tim “Hack” McDonnell; Marty McGrann and Rob Tidgewell.

Gross Team – Ladies Division
Local Club Riddell’s Bay lead by Professional Karen Nicoletti and amateurs Melinda Frith, Gladys Chambaz and Shirley Leach posted an impressive gross even par today at Tucker’s Point to lead the ladies division by a slim one shot lead by one over Charles River CC, MA lead by Jacob Leech, Marcia Walsh, Hillary McNeill and Barbara Lavallee who played at Belmont Hills and the Port Royal ladies lead by Daniel Augustus, Pat Morgan, Julie Delahunty-Moore and Tracy Nash. Both Teams are on 1 over par.

Net Team – Ladies Division
South Fork CC-C from NY lead by female professional Kate O’Sullivan and amateurs Margot Nones, Sheila Brog and Anne Cantwell posted a 6 under net today at Belmont Hills to lead the net division by one over Charles River CC from MA and the Riddell’s Bay Golf and Country Club, Bermuda. Charles River CC , MA is lead by Jacob Leech, Marcia Walsh, Hillary McNeill and Barbara Lavallee while Riddell’s Bay is lead by Professional Karen Nicoletti and amateurs Melinda Frith, Gladys Chambaz and Shirley Leach

Round Two starts tomorrow with the Club rotating to Port Royal, Mid Ocean and Tucker’s Point Club. Belmont Hills has the day off tomorrow
