35-Yr-Old Man: Autopsy Reveals Drug Pellets
The Bermuda Police today [Dec 10] released a statement in reference to the recent death of 35 year old Jamaican National Hugh Melwood, saying that after an autopsy “Several pellets which contained what is believed to be a quantity of controlled drug were recovered from within the body. It is suspected that they may have contributed to his death.” The Police said that Mr Melwood recently returned from a trip overseas.
Mr Melwood was found in an unresponsive state inside a Union Street, Pembroke residence on December 4th, and pronounced dead at 5:53am by an on call physician.
The Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the death of Mr. Melwood and asks for anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigations Unit at 295-0011. The Police have also warned the public that “the health risks associated with drug smuggling cannot be understated.

The Bermuda Police Service can confirm that on Thursday 9th December an autopsy was performed on the body of Mr. Hugh Melwood, a 35 year old Jamaican National. Several pellets which contained what is believed to be a quantity of controlled drug were recovered from within the body. It is suspected that they may have contributed to his death. The deceased recently returned to Bermuda from an overseas trip. The Bermuda Police Service continues to investigate the circumstances that led to the death of Mr. Melwood and asks for anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigations Unit at 295-0011.
The Bermuda Police Service wishes to take this opportunity to remind the public that the penalties for those convicted of drug offences are severe. Additionally, the health risks associated with drug smuggling cannot be understated.
