New Bermuda Post Office Website Launched
Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry, Senator Kim Wilson today announced the launch of the new Bermuda Post Office (BPO) website. The website’s enhanced functionality allows customers to access many of the Post Office’s services with the click of a mouse.
The website offers a rate calculator which assists customers with calculating postage for packages to anywhere in the world. Customers can also now renew Post Office Box accounts online using the site’s credit card processing function.
Additional features include up-to-date news, online feedback forms and an online track and trace service.
The Philatelic section has been redesigned to highlight the new First Day covers and an online order form can be completed and emailed directly to the Bermuda Post Office for processing First Day cover orders.
The Bermuda Post Office website can be found at www.bpo.bm.
wait…the post offices offers us services?
Considering that the post office costs twice to run than it earns in revenues, this is a move in the right direction in improving efficiencies. The Premier should be able to cut considerable costs by taking full advantage of the efficiencies and synergies that this website offers by reducing the workforce. My only concern is the many hundreds of largely unskilled workers that this technology will displace…There is no room in our economy for those of lesser educations…so while I say yes yes yes to the advances and cost cutting measures…the social ramifications will be dire…its a tough spot to be in.
That is an interesting dilemma you bring up. The government is such a huge employer that cutting budgets and becoming more efficient will increase unemployment (making the government look bad)…
On a related subject, I’d like to mention that the rap style ad currently being played on the radio regarding ‘get your mail right’ has to be one of the worst ads ever produced. Its is nearly impossible to hear what the guy is saying – and therefore the ad is all but useless.
Another total waste of Government $$$$$
I don’t want a web site, i just want my mail On-Time! and in the right Mailbox!
El bee…too many people have not thought of the flip side to the cost cutting measures….the Premier has though. If you think crime and social unrest are at high levels now…try unleashing 500-600 people into the mix – without job prospects or the basic skill set needed to get a job.
The conundrum is – do we keep them on payroll? or do we let them go and watch unemployment assistance and the demand for social assistance shoot through the roof? either way, we will pay…
There are still plenty of jobs to do for people with minimal skill levels. Problem is, Bermudians don’t want to do them. Maybe Social assistance should limit payouts to a fixed number of weeks. After that you are on your own.
I don’t understand. Ever since the days of the fax machine postal volume has been going down, delivery speed has been getting slower & staffing levels have exploded.
What am I not seeing here?
These days with electronic just about everything, Fedex & UPS, the postal system is virtually obsolete, uneeded. Perhaps privatizing what little is needed is the answer.
