Ex-Obama Advisor To Visit Bermuda
Lawrence Summers — who recently stepped down as President Obama’s director of the US National Economic Council and was US Treasury Secretary under President Clinton – will be visiting Bermuda in May as keynote speaker at the 17th Annual Alpha Hedge Bermuda Global Hedge Fund Summit.
Economist Mr. Summers, a former president of Harvard University and one of the youngest tenured professors in the university’s history, has also served as chief economist of the World Bank.
Until his recent departure, Mr. Summers was a key member of President Obama’s inner circle (he is pictured above at far right during an Oval Office meeting) and played a major role helping the Administration craft its response to the 2008 economic crisis. He is said to have tendered his resignation as an economic advisor to the President because he was disappointed not to have succeeded Ben Bernanke as head of the US Federal Reserve.
The conference — being held at the Fairmont Southampton Princess Hotel from May 1-3 – is based around the theme of what economists are calling the “New Normal” in global financial markets, a situation event organiser argue is neither new nor normal.
“With much discussion around alignment of interests and a new paradigm of investing, what has really changed?” says a promotional bulletin for the Bermuda event. “ Until investors answer this question for themselves, no one — managers and investors alike — can really make informed investment decisions.
“At this seminal time, the summit to be held in Bermuda will focus squarely on the future and what it holds for the hedge fund industry.”
