“Dangerously Prolific” Bike Thief Jailed
Now 43-years-old, with his first conviction in 1982 when he was 14, admitted serial bike stealer Kevin Howard this morning [Feb 25] pleaded guilty in Magistrates Court to yet two more charges of stealing bikes.
The DPP Prosecutor gave the information that a cycle reported as stolen on the 9th February 2011 was found, two days later on 11th February, at Howard’s Radnor Road residence. The cycle and its lockbox contents was valued at $1,395. When questioned, Mr Howard readily admitted having stolen the cycle. He was released on Police bail at 4:15pm on 11th February.
On February 11th, another cycle was reported to have been stolen around 6:00pm that day. At 9:00am on 12th February, Police again went to Mr Howard’s Radnor Road residence where they found this second cycle, valued at $3,400. When questioned, Mr Howard is said to have told Police: “I steal bikes.”
In Court this morning, Magistrate Juan Wolffe described Mr Howard as “dangerously prolific”. When questioned, and given an opportunity to reply, Mr Howard said that he had no transport and took bikes in order to have transport. Answering the Magistrate’s query: “Why not use buses and public transport”; Mr Howard said that he did, sometimes. In a further exchange, Mr Howard said: “I apologize to the people I’ve taken bikes from.”
The Prosecutor referred to Mr Howard’s previous record but, in riffling through her case papers, seemed unable to readily find his earliest date of conviction. However, Mr Howard readily supplied the information saying that it was 1982.
Confirming this, the Magistrate said that Mr Howard had last been incarcerated in October 2010, having been given a three month sentence. He had then been released, for good behavior, after he had served two thirds of that sentence and was freed on 4th December 2010.
Saying that he was “intrigued” by Mr Howard and his behaviour, but receiving no further answers from him, the Magistrate sentenced Mr Howard to eighteen months imprisonment on each count with the sentences to run concurrently.

Why concurrently? So he can go back in again sooner?
Saveme…He lives on Radnor Road. Flatts Inlet is not far away. That is why the Magistrate gave the ‘Con-Current’ sentence.
I mean jingus…….de guy is just part of the ‘flow’….
Lol Awww Terry you made my day byeeee, lol. In reality thought what sense does concurrent sentences make,to me absolutly none.
Oops correction,though is da word.
He is gonna have to contact the Post Office and make sure they have his correct address, um sure he doesn’t want to miss any important mail. LOL!!!!
He’s sane? Capable of working? Chop his hand off already!
The insurance companies can use this guy to help prevent bike thefts. He obviously knows how to steal them perhaps he can teach insurers to teach their insureds on how to defend against bike theft. Obviously some things work better than others. After he serves his time, we can turn a convict into an asset. Make it a mandatory course before the purchase of insurance for first time bike owners and an optional course for existing bike owners.
