The public was invited to put together teams of six family, friends or work colleagues to swim for an hour. There was a registration fee of $10 per participant to help raise funds for the sports centre. Games and entertainment were provided over the 24hr period and a health fair was held in the gymnasium.

Many different groups signed up to make the event a success.

Former UBP Warwick South Central candidate Devrae Noel-Simmons, one of the island’s top fitness trainers, organised a group consisting of himself, UBP Leader Kim.Swan, MP Charles Swan, MP Patricia Gordon Pamplin, Dr. Dane Coombs, Montell Currin and Susie Noel-Simmons. Dr. Melvyn Bassett was on hand and gave the opposition leader a tour of the facilities which he described as spectacular. Mr. Swan praised Mr. Noel-Simmons for “pulling him out to the event” and said a great time was had by all.

Members of the Bermuda Police Western Division stepped up to take a large portion of this night shift, putting forward four teams to contribute to the efforts. Their first team set out at 10pm and consisted of Chief Inspector Tracy Adams, Inspector Mark Clarke, Sgt Derek Berry, Constable Cerepha Bridgeman, Janeal Parsons and Linnell Williams. Three additional teams swam at Midnight, 1 am, 3 am and 4 am.
