Container Ship Diverts: Injured Man

February 5, 2011

KASIF_KALKAVAN2This evening [Feb 5] a doctor was transported out to the ‘Kasif Kalkavan’ container ship anchored off St George’s in order to treat an injured crewmember.

Bermuda Harbour Radio confirms there is a 32 year old Turkish crew member on board that suffered what is believed to be a deep laceration in his facial area.

The doctor is rendering care to the injured crew member on board the ship, and if the injuries warrant it, the crew member will be brought back to shore for treatment at the King Edward Memorial Hospital.

The 10,000 tonne Kasif Kalkavan [pictured] left Savannah, Georgia and was on its way to Mersin, Turkey when the crewmember was injured and the ship diverted to Bermuda seeking medical attention.
