Twin Sailors Making Waves In UK
Twins Jason and Jordan Saints are two of Bermuda’s top youth sailors and have represented Bermuda at numerous youth events, most notably the 2010 Volvo Youth Worlds held last summer in Turkey. They are enrolled in their first year of university in the UK.
This weekend hundreds of students from across the United Kingdom battled it out in the first round of qualifying events for the BUCS/BUSA Team Racing Championships. The top four finishing teams from each of the five regional divisions would qualify for the championship finals, which will take place from the 6th to 8th of April at the Spinnaker SC hosted by the University of Southampton.
In the South Central Division, Bermudian Jordan Saints helped lead the University of Southampton Team 2 (Soton 2) into a third place finish after fighting tough competition, strong winds and shifty conditions to win 10 of their 12 races. This result secures them a spot in the championship finals. Next weekend, Soton 2 will be competing against 16 other teams at the Wessex Winter Warmer.
Jason Saints was part of the University of Exeter Sailing Team 2 that qualified 4th in the South West BUSA League to compete at the BUSA team racing finals over Easter. The qualifiers held on the Roadford Reservoir in Devon, UK. The qualifiers were especially difficult as the day presented the sailors with strong breezes with gusts of over 30knts. Jason was also the helm for the Exeter Match Racing Team that Qualified 5th in J80’s at the Queen Mary Reservoir in London to compete at the BUSA Match Racing Finals.
