Upcoming: Argus Walks the Walk Event

February 17, 2011

The Argus Group is partnering with The Centre on Philanthropy for the second annual Argus Walks the Walk event. This unique 5K charity fundraiser allows participants to choose the Bermuda-registered charity they want their entry fees to benefit.

Argus Walks the Walk will take place on Sunday, February 27, at 9:00 a.m., with a new route starting and finishing at the Wesley Street entrance to City Hall Car Park.

This fully-marshalled route was chosen for the event this year because the offices of both the Argus Group and The Centre on Philanthropy, which relocated in 2010, are now situated on Wesley Street.

Sign-in begins at 8:30 a.m. and a warm-up session will take place prior to the walk at 8:45 a.m., led by Betty Doyling, a trainer from Court House Squash & Wellness Club in Hamilton.

The entry fee is $25, with $20 from each entry being donated to the charity selected by the participant and $5 going to support, www.VOLUNTEER.bm, Bermuda’s only volunteer recruitment website. The first 350 participants will receive a free t-shirt bearing the event’s motif. After the walk, prizes will be given for the largest corporate team, the largest youth team and the team with the most spirit.

Jennifer Burland Adams, Development & Engagement Manager of The Centre on Philanthropy, says: “We are excited to be partnering with the Argus Group on this initiative once more. Argus Walks the Walk is a unique event, which empowers charities to encourage their supporters to walk for them. The event was really successful last year and we hope to see lots of teams of employees, students and friends walking for their favourite charity again this year.”

Gerald Simons, President of the Argus Group, says: “We are delighted to be working with The Centre on Philanthropy again this year in putting together this superb event, as it serves to support a wide range of good causes, which last year included health, education, welfare, sports and arts charities. As one of the island’s most-established insurance providers, we strive to continually add value across the community and the broad base of support that the Argus Walks the Walk initiative facilitates perfectly fits this aim.”

Interested parties can register online at www.racedayworld.com or visit The Centre on Philanthropy office in Sterling House, 16 Wesley Street in Hamilton to sign up. Registrations will also be accepted on event day.

To identify or search for charities by type or cause, participants can visit The Centre on Philanthropy’s website www.centreonphilanthropy.org and use the Nonprofit Directory, which was recently revamped to be more user-friendly.
