March 22, 2011

The Bermuda Weather Service issued a Small Craft Warning, Gale Warning and Thunderstorm Advisory for today [Mar.22], saying they expect, “Winds west-southwesterly strong to gale force gusts to storm force, veering northwesterly and easing strong with gusts gale force overnight.” The low is predicted to be near 13°C/56°F.

Forecaster Ken Smith said, “Based on surface winds reaching 33 knots this afternoon, and 850mb winds reaching 48 knots, a Gale Warning has been issued for this afternoon and evening, and storm force gusts have also been included.”

“Based on stability indices and current spherics activity, a Thunderstorm Advisory has been issued for this afternoon and evening, and it’s possible this will need to be upgraded to a Severe Weather Warning. Also, a Small Craft Warning remains active for this morning, and again tonight.”

The same weather conditions are also expected on Thursday, with forecasters saying, “Initially, winds will again increase to strong by Thursday morning, becoming near gale to gale in the afternoon, also with storm force gusts likely as well as thunderstorms.”
