Upcoming Tuckers Point SDO Walking Tour
A group of environmental and social/historical organisations are inviting members of the public to a walkabout tour of the Tucker’s Point area that will be affected by the Special Development Order [SDO] just passed by the House of Assembly.
The event will be this coming Sunday [Mar.6] between 2pm and 5pm. Host organisations include the Bermuda Audubon Society, Bermuda National Trust, BEST, CURB, Greenrock, SOS and Tucker’s Town Historical Society.
The tour will point out significant sites of environmental and historical importance, including the Tucker’s Town school, the General Store and the original Marsden Church. The walkabout will be about 2 miles in length, and people are advised to bring their own water as refreshments will not be available. Organisers also said the tour is not suitable for dogs and/or strollers. Some details are still being worked out, including parking. These will be provided as they become available.
The SDO will enable Rosewood Tucker’s Point Resort & Spa to expand its current 100 guest room inventory [configured as 88 rooms and suites] by 50-70 guest rooms and suites on the adjacent Quarry Hill site. The actual number of additional rooms will depend on geophysical studies of the site and tourism market conditions as the expansion gets under way. A statement from Tucker’s Point said that: “Not only is approval of the SDO critical to the financial viability of Tucker’s Point, it is a condition for finalizing the agreement with Rosewood Hotels & Resorts.”
