Lisa Blackburn Sets Two Bermuda Records
Top local swimmer Lisa Blackburn broke two new Bermuda records while competing in the Division 2 Team Championships in Brantford, Ontario from April 15-17.
She broke the Bermuda National 200m Butterfly Record, with her time of 2:35.96 shattering Ashley Yearwood’s record of 2:36.56, and her time of 2:27.02 in the 200m individual medley improving on Kiera.Aitken’s record of 2:27.07.
Ms Blackburn said, “This competition has an interesting format swimming the morning heats in short course meters (SCM) and the evening finals sessions in long course meters (LCM). My first race of the weekend was the 50 freestyle. I stood up and swam a lifetime personal best time of 26.96!!!!”
“This time was 1.28 seconds faster than the time I swam in November 2010 and it ranked me 1st overall! Over the course of the two and a half day meet, I raced a total of 12 times and our team placed 3rd overall!”
She also competed in the Eric Namesnik Grand Prix in Ann Arbor, Michigan April 8-10, swimming 1:14.15 in the 100m breaststroke to place 12th overall, Ms Blackburn also raced the 200m breastroke and 200m IM. This competition saw top swimmers including Michael Phelps, Nathalie Coughlin, Katie Hoff and many other in attendance.
Ms Blackburn will continue to train in Bermuda until May 1st, when she will travel back to Kitchener-Waterloo where she will
continue to train and work for in preparation for various upcoming competitions including the Grand Prix Series Meet, Charlotte, NC [May 13-15], the Age Group International Etobicoke, Ontario [June 4-6], the Bermuda National Championships [June 10-12] and the Grand Prix Series Meet, Santa Clara, CA [June 17-20]
