Minister Pays Tribute to Capt. Horace Gibbons

April 6, 2011

Minister of National Security Wayne Perinchief today [Apr.6] offered his sincerest condolences to the family of the late Capt. Horace Gibbons MBE, EM.

Capt. Gibbons served as the Bandmaster of the all-black Bermuda Militia Artillery [BMA] and after the amalgamation of the BMA with the all-white Bermuda Volunteer Rifle Corps [BVRC] became the first Bermudian Director of Music for the Bermuda Regiment.

Minister Perinchief observed: “The name Horace Gibbons is synonymous with music. Throughout his life Capt. Gibbons contributed to the musical enrichment of Bermuda’s community and cultivated many local musical talents to the point of excellence in their craft.”

“The Government and people of Bermuda join with the Gibbons family, the men and women of the Bermuda Regiment and the St. George’s community to mourn the loss of this sterling musician, father and grandfather.”
