Police Advisory On Alleged Charity Collection
The Police have issued an advisory which warns of an “unknown individual” who has attended at least one home falsely claiming to be collecting donations for Autism Awareness Month.
A Police spokesman said, “Once again the Bermuda Police Service would like to remind members of the public to remain vigilant regarding scams. It has come to our attention that an unknown individual has attended at least one home claiming to be collecting donations for Autism Awareness Month.
“April is Autism Awareness Month; however none of the established local autism charities are soliciting donations at this time. We would advise the public that if you are approached by someone alleging to be collecting money for any charity that you contact that charity directly to confirm whether or not they are fundraising before handing over any cash.”
If you would like to make a donation to support the island’s autism charities you can contact both Tomorrow’s Voices and Bermuda Autism Support & Education [BASE] through their websites: Tomorrowsvoices.bm and Bermudaautism.org.
This is the lowest of the low.
Yes, it is.
As times get tougher, cases like this will become a lot more frequent unfortunately. We just need to be aware and be well prepared.
