21-Year-Old Fined For Cannabis Possession

May 5, 2011

Today in Magistrates Court a 21-year-old man was fined for drug possession after pleading guilty and telling the Court it was an “honest mistake,” and that he “tried to throw it away but they was too close.”

Jay Dill was this morning [May 5] fined $3,200 for possession of the controlled drug cannabis, possessing a grinder intended for use with a controlled drug, and possessing wrapping papers intended for use with a controlled drug.

When given an opportunity to explain his actions, Mr Dill offered: “It was an honest mistake. I didn’t know that I had it on me. When I did notice it was on me it was too late. I tried to throw it away but they was too close.”

Mr Dill had been stopped near Westgate Correctional facility on 9th November 2010 because the Police said they had reason to believe that he was in possession of drugs. On searching the car they found several twists and cigarette rolling papers. Mr Dill was then escorted to his Warwick home where the Police found the grinder, which, on forensic examination had traces of cannabis resin on it.

Mr Dill was fined $1,000 for drugs possession, an additional $1,500 for possessing the drug in an increased penalty zone – within 300 yards of Westgate Correctional Facility; $400 for the grinder; and $300 for the cigarette papers.

Mr Dill was then charged separately with a speeding offence for which he was fined a further $250; bringing his total fines to $3,450. He was given until 5th June to pay the fines.

Bermuda is another world… In a heartbeat we know who gets caught with possession of weed but the freaks running around molesting innocent little children go unnamed and unidentified…

    What a backwards little country.

Quick to bust on weed, but guns? I dunno, I guess they don’t leave a scent….one hell of a blood trail, but yeah, no smell.

Why do we have “increased penalty zones”? Is it a way to justify the extra fines? I mean, 300 yard radius from a school, prison, etc….hell the whole freakin island is an increased penalty zone then.

      • Organic Bermudian says:

$300 for papers? are Rizzla’s illegal? if so why do they sell them in stores. Looks like the whole busting people for weed is more of a money making scheme for the Government than anything.

    • Can You See Me Now says:

      EXACTLY!

    • could it be.... says:

Rizzla’s are legal…but not when being used with a controlled drug.

The sole intention of this comment is for humor. Anyone that literally takes this advice and gets locked up, fined or cant pay the rent does so at there own peril. I smoked once but I did not inhale.
