Set To Reappear: Southside Shooting Suspects
At this morning’s [May 2] Supreme Court arraignment session, it was decided that all three men who are charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm connected with the 2009 Southside Cinema shooting will return to court on Friday 6th May.
On November 13, 2009, Shaki Minors [then 26] and his girlfriend Renee Kuchler [then 24], were shot as they left Southside Cinema in St. David’s at approximately 11.30 pm. Both were rushed to hospital, and recovered from their injuries.
As proceedings began this morning, lawyer Charles Richardson – acting for Jahmel Blakeney – objected to the arraignment continuing.
Mr Richardson said that on Friday 29th April, he had requested a Long Form Preliminary Inquiry and was now at a loss to explain to his client why his client was now being arraigned in Supreme Court.
Marc Pettingill, holding for Marc Daniels supported that argument, and Mr Mahoney for the Crown offered no explanation that satisfied the Chief Justice.
Chief Justice Ground then ruled that the case should come back before him, for mention, on Friday 6th May. Craig Attridge, for Sanchey Grant, joined the action and all three men will appear together on Friday.
