Two Cruise Ships Divert: Medical Emergencies

Over the weekend two cruise ships diverted closer to Bermuda to transfer passengers requiring medical care.

On Monday 9th May, Bermuda Ship Agents advised Bermuda Radio that the cruise ship ‘Crown Princess’ was diverting to Bermuda to disembark a 57 year old male passenger who was suffering from breathing difficulties. The vessel rendezvoused with the pilot cutter ‘St. George’ at the sea buoy where the transfer took place.

The passenger was transferred to an awaiting ambulance at Ordnance Island transported the patient to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital while ‘Crown Princess’ continued on her voyage from Port Everglades, Florida, USA to Ponta Delgada, the Azores Islands.

On Saturday 7th May, the cruise ship ‘Grand Princess’ diverted to Bermuda to disembark a 55 year old male passenger who also needed urgent medical attention. The vessel rendezvoused with the pilot cutter ‘St. George’ at the Sea buoy where the transfer took place, and the passenger was then brought ashore and taken to the hospital. The ‘Grand Princess’ continued her on voyage from Port Everglades, Florida, USA to Ponta Delgada, the Azores Islands.
