Caribbean Champs: Six Swimmers To Compete
Ben Smith, National Coach and Sharks Swim Club Head Coach, spoke on the upcoming Caribbean Championships that will be held in Mayaguez Puerto Rico from the 26th of June till the 2nd of July.
“We set a high standard for this competition as this meet attracts the best swimmers in our region,” said Mr Smith.
“The team will be made up of Lisa Blackburn, Nicole Yearwood, Ashley Yearwood [pictured], Rebecca Heyliger, Nick Patterson and Jesse Washington. The team will be managed by Doug Patterson and National Coach Ben Smith will be the coach for the competition.
“For most of these swimmers this will be their first exposure to this particular competition and I am looking forward to some strong results. Lisa Blackburn was able to come home with several medals last year at the CISC meet and we hope to see her do similarly well after her recent good results.
“The Yearwood sisters and Rebecca Heyliger have all medaled in the region in the past and will be racing against some stiff competition this time around. Nick Patterson will be building off of his strong results at Carifta this year and hoping to get his second qualifying time for this summer’s World Youth and this fall’s Youth Commonwealth Games.
“Jesse Washington burst onto the scene at this year’s Carifta and was able to make the high standards for this meet. It will be great to see how he reacts to the new challenge with stiffer competition from the Central American part of our region.
“I hope that we will be able to return with personal best swims from all of the swimmers and will always be excited if we can reach the podium,” concluded Mr Smith.
GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL FROM BERMUDA!!!!!!!
