ISL Soccer League: Apex, Knights, Arsenal Win
The second week of the 2011 Lindo’s ISL season kicked off with three games today [June 25]. The first match saw the Apex stun the league champion Storm 6-3. Heyes Wolfe and Jahron Dickinson each scored two goals, and Apex Goalkeeper Daniel Johnson made 17 saves in the win.
The Storm is 0-2 for the first time ever and is now in danger of missing the playoffs a year after they won the Championship. The Apex evened their record at 1-1 on the season.
Today’s second match saw the Knights win their 8th straight regular season game, defeating the Titans 9-1. Ian Coke recorded a hat trick for the Knights. Coke, Kaiya Darrell, and Jared Peniston accounted for seven of the Knights’ nine goals.
Knights goalkeeper Nigel Burgess held the opposition to just one goal for the second straight game. The Knights have outscored their opponents 18-2 in two games this year.
The final game saw Arsenal dominate the Union 13-5. Cecoy Robinson and Ralph Bean each scored four goals for Arsenal. The Union played without starting GK Treadwell Gibbons who was suspended for one game.
The Union’s Dennis Russell scored his 1st goal of the season. Russell was the 2009 Lindo’s ISL leading scorer but played just one game last year. Arsenal GK’s Jason Smith and Daniel Adams shared time in goal for Head Coach John Barry Nusum.
Tomorrow is Oldies Goldies night, and the band Hindsight will be performing at National Stadium. It’s also a quick turnaround on the field for the Ace Insurance Blue Division.
The Knights are back on the field looking for nine straight regular season wins when they take on the Apex, and Andrew Bascome’s Storm have a crucial game against the Titans as they try to avoid starting the season 0-3. Sunday’s other match is a G.E.T. Limited Red Division match between the Kings and the Royal.
