That dude is lucky as hell!

  2. Original (Original) says:

Tee Street is such a dangerous road – I mean it has so many twists and turns. So easy for a car to flip. It should be closed off permanently. UBP is to blame. (For incredibly unaware (read stupid) people, this is know as humour – or humor if you are American).

How can a car flip on Tee St? There are no turns. I’m thinking incredible speed.

  3. Shorta ranks says:

Hope he is well. This is becoming common now.

  4. After a dude overtook me going west just before SHELLY BAY BEACH ( ON THAT CORNER )Had I not moved over there wasn’t no way in hell he would’ve made it because the car coming was hugging the line….. So I do not know anymore whats wrong with these guys, THERE IS NO DAMN TROPHY FOR CRAZY SHI.. LIKE THAT AND SURE NO MILLION DOLLAR PRIZE…. SLOW DOWN AND EVERYONE IS TEXTING AND DRIVING, Tee st incident I was not there but Come on people….. Enjoy the weekend… Thanks

    • John says:

And the police and government will NOT do anything. I saw a truck driver speeding the other day and waving to his buddy the police officer who waved back – some of the police have no integrity

  5. Cleancut says:

Driving during the day now is a nightmare, people cross the yellow line inches from hitting you, driving at night is the real night-mare, that’s when our lovely “full of life” maniacs are on the road driving around aimlessly. Sit on a wall on any main road going east or west, between 1am and 5am and you will have the shock of your LIFE. stand clear!

  6. The Milkman says:

Driving at anytime is dangerous! Sadly too many just don’t care what rules of the road they break and then when they have an accident they want to make excuses and blame something other than what they were doing wrong.
Glad to see this person is ok but I am still trying to figure out how a car can flip at close to the speed limit if one is paying attention!

    • Govnamon says:

it cant…. thats the point, u think he was goin 45k…. very unlikely tho ya boy was travling down a hill causing some of the force which flipped the car to come from gravity, not his speed…. but still difficult to flip a car in berm, plus he left the scene before babylon showd up….. clearly not a rode scholar

  7. Kathy says:

Maybe he fell asleep. That is possible you know. At least he’s ok.

    • Livin Large says:

Yes, it was an honest accident in which he fell asleep…and then realized he had to go back to bed so left the scene?? Come on.

  8. keep away from the roads says:

I swear these car manufacturers must send us all their lemons .. this happens so much now ….
But the cars are more expensive than ever .

    • WellSaid says:

No, it’s just our drivers who are defective. How the @ell can you flip a car on a relatively straight road with a speed limit of 35(50)k? I guess a tree jumped out in front of the guy, or his brakes failed, or a cat ran out in front of him?

  9. Aquarius says:

try Ferry Reach every single morning. full of idiots thinking that they need to kill someone just to get in front of them even if there are 5 more cars in front again! the mentality of these drivers is crazy!

  10. luke says:

Suspend him for 3 years !! send him to driving school… and fine him thousands…wreckless with too much speed or drink ..near a hospital (although there’s no signs to say that !!! come on BHB ) .. He could have easily killed someone on a scooter or walkin a pram.. and no i wasn’t there bernews hippies but i still sit in judgment !! i doubt he was swerving for a toad !!

  11. Seriously says:

    no one knows the situation…
maybe this guy got tragic news and was rushing to the hospital…

    glad the dude is ok.

    • UN I - TEE Y says:

Thank you “Speak Your Mind”…. finally…someone that thinks outside the box. We should learn to reserve opinions until we know the facts. If we did we wouldnt have to apologize as often and look like fools as often as many of us do.

      • longtail says:

Yea – really makes it OK if the guy just had bad news, or fell asleep. And if he hit your child instead of a wall then it would still be OK???? Get real – this is nothing more than abusive driving for which there is no excuse……

    • K says:

So, this ‘tragic news’ gives him the right to put other people’s lives in danger, causing another person to receive tragic news? Anyone who justifies speeding is an idiot! Regardless of his situation, once you endanger other people due to your reckless behaviour you are just an idiot. Slow the hell down! If he were rushing to the hospital, he never made it, so what’s the point?

      • Stop Pointing ya Fingers says:

So if you just got news saying that your child was in the hospital dying from some event and that they would not make it, you would not rush to the hospital to see them and comfort them?? you would just take your sweet time because all you would be thinking about is not hurting someone else on the road? RIGHT, SURE YOU WOULD!! Point is, “UN I – TEE Y” says is best by saying, “We should learn to reserve opinions until we know the facts. If we did we wouldnt have to apologize as often and look like fools as often as many of us do.” In other words, you have no idea what happened nor do you know the specifics so stop acting as if you did, regardless of your opinions, you was not there and do not know the specifics.

  12. gms says:

No matter where he might have been going and why, if you exceed the speed limit or drive at a speed above the prudent level for a given stretch of road, any problem you incur is your own damn fault! Accidents like this shouldn’t happen in a country with a speed limit as low as ours.

No road in Bermuda is inherently dangerous, provided it is driven at the appropriate rate of speed. Just because their is a set speed limit, it doesn’t imply that it’s safe to drive at the speed at all times. Drivers must use their judgement and drive appropriately for the conditions and roads they encounter. To do anything else is foolhardy and invites problems.

    • bermyshotta says:

@ gms – n how many ppl you really know or see dat follow de 35kph speed limit haha. the “real” speed limit is 50kph.

  13. Cedar Beams (Original) says:

The laws of physics require a tremendous force to flip a car. So we are talking speed and impact here. All this on a relatively straight piece of road.

  14. Common Sense says:

It is high time that insurance companies have access to the records of ALL convictions for speeding, dangerous driving, reckless driving, drunk driving etc. so they can either increase the insurance premiums for those who drive or ride this way – or they can choose to cancel their coverage completely! I’m sick of my insurance premiums going up every year because of the idiotic actions of lunatic drivers and riders. No insurance equals no vehicle licence equals greatly reduced idiotic driving and safer roads.

    • Onion says:

      I’m with you, Common Sense.

    • dont think so says:

You cannot increase insurance for people, that is ludacris. Im had a ticket for doing 53, and that is the norm….. im never wrecked, or claimed on my insurance for 23 yearss…. are you going to tell me that my isurance needs to go up, because im going over the limit and ive had several speeding tickets. You m ight want to re-think that one. Out of anything, im a upstanding citizen. No accidents 30 years, no claims, they should lower my premium. But that never seems the case. Seems to go up every year, claim or not!

      • K says:

Upstanding citizen? Clearly you are not if you think driving at 53 is ok. Just because it has become the norm does not make it right, hence YOUR TICKET!!

        • Think about it says:

          @K

Are you serious? What the hell is wrong with driving 50k? I always have this conversation and everyone I talked to about it agrees: 50k is a decent speed, and not at all dangerous. Everyone, including the police drive 50k on a regular basis. The only reason the speed limit is 35k is because the laws governing EVERYTHING in Bermuda were written more than 60 years ago, before cars were even capable of doing 50k.

    • Think about it says:

      @Common Sense

Why would YOUR premiums go up because someone else has an accident? Please explain your logic.

  15. what an a hole says:

i could not have said it better Common Sense Sure enough, looks like my premium will be going or no reduced premium all cause of a holes and I am @#$ pissed!

  16. Ganja mon says:

smh @ everyone who assumes the car was speeding and blah blah blah..You people are seriously failing to see what important here. THE driver is OK. Most of you are worrying about your car insurance like it thats important.. This becoming more of a venting post then a conversation post.

    • Just Don't understand says:

I’m glad that the driver is OK (Thank God)but I still wonder how this could happen and the only thing I come up with is speed, people need to slow down. A little care will get you there. we have a young man now in Mass General from last week’s accident which I know for a fact the rider could have avoided.

    • K says:

The driver being ok is the important part? Pah!! Had he hit one of your friends or family members while SPEEDING I bet you his well being wouldn’t be so important now would it. Wake the hell up people. It’s always the people in the wrong that get so much sympathy from people.

      • Let's Think About This... says:

Do you think we should get upset because he might have hit a family member or innocent bystander? Should we protest because our car insurance might be raised as a result of paying for inconsiderate drivers such as he? Maybe get mad because he might have been speeding (it’s unconfirmed at this point so anything is a possibility no matter how obvious it might seem) or driving recklessly. Yeah, let’s get mad…and then what? This time, what might have happened didn’t, and everyone is still alive. But how can this be prevented from happening again? Saying “we’re glad he’s not dead” isn’t giving him sympathy; it’s saying we’re glad that there’s one less road traffic death to add to Bermuda’s ever increasing statistics. There’s one less grieving family, and innocent bystanders are still safe. I am in no way condoning reckless driving. And yes, if it was a family member/friend of mine I would be upset. However, now we need to find a way to keep it like that.

Folks, the road does NOT like or care about you. It doesn’t matter how well you can drive, if you’ve been driving since you could see over the dashboard and reach the pedals, or whatever experience you may have. Race car drivers still flip their cars and so can you. Take it easy and be considerate of others on the road. If you’re tired or have an altered mental status (ie intoxicated, on medication, etc), let someone else drive, stay home, or pull over until you can get under control. It’s ok to say, “I can’t do this right now, I might loose control so let me take it easy.” You might just save a life, even yours. If you have friends who seem out of it, take their keys. Insist that you drive, or let them stay with you until they clear up. Be willing to pick up friends if they’re out and can’t operate a vehicle. Things like that help save lives.

Let’s wait until the investigation is concluded before crucifying the driver. I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be as condemning if they were your friend/family member.

  17. Skeptic says:

any further thought to having speed traps?? I mean if they can have it set up to take pics of people speeding and then send tickets in the mail (or perhaps charge those going at a high rate of speed) then perhaps that will help?? It works in Germany. THe cost of installing and maintaining vs. the cost of a persons life seems to balance out doesn’t it? Would love to see one on middle road in Smiths – people clock down the “speedway’ – it’s ridiculous! I am willing to bet some people make it to 100

  18. Parent says:

People say the roads here are dangerous. I think they are dangerous only due to the terrible driving – total abuse of risking other people’s lives . It is so out of hand. There are more road accidents here per capita due to dangerous driving or DWCA (driving without care and attention) than anywhere given the same population. Really – what is safe about the following: speeding, overtaking on a hill/blind corner, texting or speaking on the phone, drink/drug driving … if the police want to start at the grass roots of the abiding by the law, they should get serious about abusers of our roads. Just a thought … We don’t need speed cameras, bumps and rumble strips, we need respect and removal of licences and FINES.

  19. Think about it says:

How much you want to bet that he was either high or drunk? That would explain the accident and why he was stupid enough to leave the scene before the police showed up.
