Island Games Day #2 Results
The second day of competition in the 2011 Island Games in the Isle of Wight has concluded, with Bermuda’s athletes continuing to compete in a wide variety of sports.

Badminton – Team Event
- Bermuda went down4 – 1 to Jersey, Bermuda’s Rohan Pai won the first match 21-17, 21-11, then Jersey’s Jade Coombs defeated Rowena Cespedes 21-14, 21-9. In the all-important tie-breaker Bermuda’s Mark Haugen & Rick Dorush went down in doubles 25-23, 21-23, 21-14.
Basketball
- Bermuda’s Men’s basketball team went down by two points – 72 – 70 to Saaremaa.
Track & Field
- Victoria Clarke finished 6th in the Women’s 100m Final, Clarke clocked time of 12.39. Melissa Clarke reached the Women’s 400 Final, when she finished 2nd in Heat 2 with a time of 58.32. Stephen Allen – who has already won a Bronze medal – finished 5th in the Men’s 5,000m with a time of 16:18.29.
Sailing
- Brett Wright leads the Laser Standard Rig Fleet with 4 points, Wright finished third in the first race and then won the second race, while Rockal Evans is in 5th place with 14 points after finishing 6th & 8th. In the Laser Radial Rig Fleet Sara Adderley and Jordan Saints are tied in second place with 28 points
Tennis
- Na’im Ahzar and David Thomas defeated their opponents from the Isle of Wight in straight sets 6 – 0, 6 – 0 in Men’s Doubles action, meanwhile Bermuda went down 2 – 1 in Women’s Team action, Tyler Smith won the first singles match in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 against Eva Moynihan, Jacklyn Lambert then went down in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 to Katue Gouyette, in the all-important Ladies Doubles match-up sister Jacklyn & Tara Lambert went down in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 to Moynihan & Gouyette.
Squash
- Bermuda fell 5-0 against a steady and prepared Isle of Wight squad. Chris Stout was very close to Bermuda’s only win with some brilliant forehand kills. Bermuda rallied and looks to build on their momentum in their upcoming matches.
Shooting
- Competing in the ISSF 50m Prone Smallbore Rifle Men’s Team Event Bermuda finished 9th, Anthony Evans and Carl Reid teamed up to record a score of 847. In the Men’s Sporting Team Event Bermuda finished 15th, James Keith McPhee and Brian Mello combined a score of 91.
Cycling
- Neil de ste Croix finished 23rd in the Men’s Individual Mountain Bike Criterium.
Volleyball
- The Bermuda Women took the court against Gibraltar, Bermuda swept Gibraltar in 3 straight sets 25- 12, 25- 18, 25- 17.
