Orkney Island Games Medals Unveiled
With less than 100 days until the Island Games, the official medals for the event in Orkney have been revealed.
Orkney will welcome around 2,000 athletes from 24 island groups to compete across 12 sports from July 12 to 18.
It will be the first time in the Games’ 40-year history that Orkney has hosted the biennial event.
A panel of judges selected a striking medal design created by islander Jodie Brown, which will appear on all 1,272 medals awarded during the Games.
The design features the iconic Standing Stones of Stenness—ancient Neolithic monuments believed to predate Stonehenge.
Ms Brown, a 23-year-old from Kirkwall, will receive a commemorative set of the medals and has been invited to present one during the Games.
She explained the inspiration behind her work: the stones represent the top three places in each competition and symbolise Orkney’s deep historical roots.
The vibrant ribbon accompanying the medals was designed by Olivia Yorston.
Her concept incorporates the colours of the Orkney flag and showcases all official Island Games logos, tying together tradition and celebration.
The medals are being sponsored by renowned Orkney jewellery designer Sheila Fleet, adding a local touch of craftsmanship to this international event.
Kirsty Talbot, director of Orkney 2025, told BBC Sport: “Orkney is a thriving hub for creatives, attracting artists, writers, musicians, and craftspeople from across the globe.
