Road Closures For Court Building Opening
On Saturday, 11 June at 10am, 2011, the Official Opening of Dame Lois Browne Evans Building will be held at 58 Court Street, Hamilton.
Premier Paula Cox and Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Works Derrick Burgess, will be joining family members of the late Dame Lois Browne Evans for a ribbon cutting ceremony.
Following the ceremony, invited guests will be able to view an exhibit of documents relating to the life and career of Dame Lois in the lobby of the Dame Lois Browne Evans Building mounted by the Department of Archives.
The exhibit will remain open for public viewing until the start of the Cup Match public holiday on July 28, 2011.
A spokesperson said “The Ministry of Public Works would like to notify the motoring public that there will be several road closures Northbound at Court Street at the junction of Church Street and Southbound at Victoria Street at the junction of Court Street in Hamilton on Saturday, 11 June, from 6am until 11.30am. Traffic in these areas will be diverted East or West.”
“The Ministry apologizes for any inconvenience the road closures may cause and requests that motorists cooperate with the traffic restrictions in this area of Hamilton and avoid Church Street at the junction of Court Street and Victoria Street at the junction of Court Street.”

Any chance the public will finally be told how much the building ended up costing (i.e. went over budget)?
We probably could have saved $40,000 on the doors and entrance foyer glass railings alone if more reasonable finishing materials choices were made. Clearly no expense was spared on this PLP vanity project. Do more with more !!
I thought it came in on budget … simply because everytime it ‘went over , yet again’ they just revised the original estimate .
I think they learned that from the Berkely debacle .. Bet they wish they had been able to apply that there too ..
Wonder how many insiders had home rennovations on the back of this project like Berkeley?
