Sean Trott Wins First Island Games Medal
[Updated] In the first morning of competition at the 2011 Island Games in the Isle of Wight, Bermuda’s name is etched on the medal table already courtesy of a stellar performance by Sean Trott which saw him win a Bronze medal in the half marathon.
After the race Mr Trott said it was, “Perfect conditions for running today, it was cool weather out, you couldn’t ask for a better day, you had fog and everything out there. It was a hilly course, in fact there were two huge hills.”
“I ran with a group of runners for most of the first half, and then one of them made a break at around 7 miles so I went with him and we got away from the 4th guy, and then I just held my position to the finish.”

The Men’s Half Marathon was held this morning [June 26], and Lee Merrien of Guernsey finished in 1:08:36 to win the Gold, and Kevin Loundes from the Isle of Man finished in 1:11:28 to win the Silver, with Mr Trott crossing the line in 1:12:22 to give Bermuda our first medal of these Games.
Bermuda had three representatives in the Half Marathon, with Stephen Allen finishing 11th in a time of 1:16.11, and May 24th Champion Deon Breary running in the Women’s Half Marathon finished 9th with a time of 1:28.52. Mr Allen, Ms Breary and Mr Trott are pictured below after the race this morning:
Update: The Team Half Marathon results are in, with Bermuda picking up another medal, with the combination of Stephen Allen and Sean Trott winning the Bronze. Keep up with all the Bermuda athlete’s results for the day here.
Update #2: Ms Breary’s performance today which earned her a 9th place finish is a personal best for the 41 year old runner.
