Tropical Storm Bret Passes, Fizzles Out

Tropical Storm Bret – now downgraded to a tropical depression – passed a few hundred miles off Bermuda with little more then a touch of rain to mark its passing. For the coming weekend, the Bermuda Weather Service predicts, “Southwesterly winds will hold a warm and humid tropical airmass over the area for the period with daily chances of passing showers, and temperatures near seasonal normals.”

Bret’s maximum sustained winds are now near 35 mph, with higher gusts. The system is forecast to gradually weaken by tonight [July 22] and dissipate in a day or so, according to the U.S National Hurricane Center.
