10-Person Fight At 24 Hour Gas Station

August 12, 2011

24 hr aug 211Police said that approximately ten people were involved in a fight at the ’24 hour gas station’ on Richmond Road early this morning [Aug.12], and that no arrests have been made at this time.

The incident saw items knocked off the shelves and customer access restricted while staff went about their tasks of cleaning up the mess.

Just before the doors opened a few minutes after 6am, staff could still be seen cleaning up while customers waited outside.

Trickles of what appeared to be blood could be seen being mopped away, while other staff members set about tidying up other aspects of the store.

Bystanders told Bernews that some of those involved in the fight may possibly be affiliated with the Parkside gang, and that a female was also involved.

The female was said to have fought hard, punching men involved in the fight, and was described by one individual as having gotten up after being knocked down and “boxing guys.”

A police spokesperson said, “At 2:26 am on Friday August 12, Police responded to a report of a disturbance inside of the Tiger Market Esso Gas Station on Richmond Road, Pembroke.”

“It was ascertained that shortly before Police arrival approximately ten people were fighting inside of the gas station. The store itself received damages resulting in destroyed food items and shelving units.”

“Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Police on the main line at 295-0011.”

Judging by the TV monitor display in the store, the gas station appears to have CCTV installed.

Black people men!!! Come on, you know it’s true! A few of you give the rest of us a bad name! Why do we have to be so “hard” all the time? Always with something to prove, leaving with a fuller ego and an emptier soul…

    • wat next? says:

its ridiculous and embarrassing…i hope they are found and made example of…i think i would much rather read about that…

    • amen says:

they go there after drinking all night, there and ice queen you have to be careful going after midnight. they go there drunk and act an ass to everyone and pick fights. don’t look at them the wrong way or accidentally bump into them or step on their toe toes!

      • CAT says:

        effin idiots!

      • pray some more says:

I don’t think they even need to be under the influence of anything.. This lot are so poorly socialized that anything will set them off.. And they’re entitled to behave any way they want to because they don’t even know what inappropriate behaviour is .

    • Harmony says:

Eventhough you are probably right!! Why does it always have to be black people, they non of the sort! I’m just saying!
But this day and age its white and black fighting, men and women, so you can’t just put it on one ethnicity!

      • uungh .. says:

”But this day and age its white and black fighting, men and women, so you can’t just put it on one ethnicity!”

RME … Yeah , I really get tired of seeing all these white people acting like azzholes everytime I go out … I even cross to the other side of the road when I see them coming … NOT !

        • jojo says:

WHY does someone ALWAYS bring up race???? it was people fighting, and one female. that it! look at it for what it is

      • Scott says:

Harmony, as much as what you say is very politically correct, its just not reality.

      • Necromonger says:

Please I can assure you they weren’t expaitriate workers fighting because some Bermudian took their job and they have to go back home… Of course it’s black people..!!!! BLACK BERMUDIAN YOUTHS…

I hate the way these muppets act, but they are just a small segment of our youth. The majority of our youth and young adults are doing good things no Great Things and moving forward in a positive direction. It’s just the media outlets that give these A holes any lip service.

Celebrate our youth that are doing the right thing and forget about these punks..

        • Street talk says:

Lip service just like your stupid rant..smh. Your part of the problem, not the solution.

  2. Nice Work says:

Nothing like a good brawl in the weeeeee hours of the morning. I hope we can see that footage released on youtube soon.

  5. Jus' Askin' says:

How fast was the fight that no one has been arrested? What was the response time by the BPS? Police Station is not that far ;-)

    • Skeptical says:

I agree! no arrests made yet!!!! we need to bring in that cop that is helping out London on their riot responses and get France in on the act too, for that matter. They offered to help the UK.

  6. Geza Wolf says:

Needless to say at that hour they all ahd just stopped enjoying bermudas favorite drug.

    • B Connell says:

      (Re: youtube link)
Amen, Mayor Michael Nutter of Philadelphia…….he couldn’t have said it any better…..

    • In Mark's opinion says:

Bermuda stand up . Where are our leaders ?

    • link says:

Great link GC , but the people who need that message and ,indeed should have been aware of it decades ago , and that includes similar speeches from Bill Cosby , refuse to accept responsibility for their actions. It will forever be someones elses fault (and you know who those people are that are being blamed .)

Ironically , this is something that white Bermudians have been saying for many ,many years, but Nutter won’t ever be called ‘racist’ for his opinion.

  7. MY DEAR says:

I saw this coming,as we all know, after hours, these hoodlums are drunk and totally out of daggone order…and they dare anyone to intervene, more or less say anything to them…then we as bystanders would be in the ruckus too…

  8. PEPPER says:

These establishments need to close down at sunset….I heard that the ice queen closes at 10 pm now…is this the truth ?

    • bermyshotta says:

      @ Pepper – 5am

    • Organic Bermudian says:

MOS gangs will continue to operate normal hours folks MOS aka MONEY OVER SAFETY

      • observer says:

Money over safety seems to be the driving factor in all of this. Take for instance the parties that get thrown that attract all of the nonesense. All of those applications must go through the police for approval so why oh why do they allow it to continue to happen……MONEY thats why!!

  9. through the lens says:

Don’t I see GET staff working there late nights. So hopefully someone should know something, other than the staff at Esso.
What difference does it make where the Police station is? If by the time it was reported, all the people had scattered ( like cockroaches when you turn on the lights ), who would the police arrest when they arrive.
You people need to stop believing the police just sit by the phones, waiting for a call so they can speed to it.
I know that’s what Hollywood would have you believe, but it doesn’t work like that in real life.

  10. Just an idea says:

This is the bermuda yall voted for so get used to it or take a look at yourself and make that change (thanks Michael)

    • White Christ says:

      You’re a racist!

    • Bermuda is truely another world....(SMDH). says:

I share no blame in how these a$#holes were raised. It’s their parents fault or lack thereof (non-parenting parents). Give, give, give with no responsiblity or consequences..fools forget they grow-up and then take, take, take. Taking away right-minded citzens freedom to move freely and enjoy our island paradise. Closing down establishments early so these drunken fools can mess up the place is aiding and abetting their foolish behaviour and causes an inconvenience to the generally civilized Joe & Jane Public.

What an embarrassment – every freakin weekend these fools act the ass. It’s not my job to fix this…but if it was how does one fix these damaged fools? Oh I know, A TOUGHER PRISON (not a damn all inclusive hotel to congregate – so what they can’t leave all their damn cohorts are there too) AND REHABILATION PROGRAMMES (programmes while in jail to help them realise the err of their ways and why their behavour is unexceptable; if they don’t pass they stay in jail until they do – oh and not a BSSC pass with a damn ‘D’) maybe they have never been told WHY!!. U think!! Moral of the story is….when you reduce the level of moral values to nudda, what we see today is what you get!

  11. freddyg says:

ITS A SHAME !! What happen to setting an example or even respecting the example set for you growing up !!! SAD CASE OF AFFAIRS, JUST SAD !!!

  12. Triangle Drifter says:

A school yard brawl. Children behaving like children. They know no better. They never had the parenting. Surprised anyone?

  13. Chart says:

At least they were fighting not shooting. I guess.

  14. Down 'n' Dirty says:

Damn , what a shame . I’d like to see that chick duke it out with that Perrozzi woman .

  15. Chronic Backpain (Original) says:

Bermuda’s best doing what they do best: Acting like the totally ignorant little fools that they are!

Grow the f*ck up you a*sholes!

What the f**k is wrong with these people?

    • It is what it is says:

SMH! and their use of language is just as appalling as yours!!!!

      • Chronic Backpain (Original) says:

Least I’m not using idiotic infantile acronyms!

    • Emeka47 says:

Bermuda’s best is not these fools….I understand your frustration, we are all angry, BUT …Bermuda’s best are those kids, mostly black who are working in summer jobs, internships, track and field, IT, running summer school programs, Visitor Information Partnerships, overseas studying to become Lawyers, doctors, re-insurance, bankers, and the list goes on, so DON”T throw all of us B’dians in with ‘those lot’ We have some bright and right thinking young people in our island, many I’m proud to say are working this summer to pay for their education. How do you think they feel when you lump them in with your remarks?

      • Chronic Backpain (Original) says:

Referring to them as Bermuda’s best was an exercise in sarcasm. I too am proud the people you mentioned – those who are making an effort to get somewhere in life.

        • Emeka47 says:

I take your punt……but when I hear my grand-daughter say, ‘why is every one blamng us’ She is one of the ‘best’ young people 20 yrs, no children, 4th yr in BDA College GPA 3.6, studying to be an IT Teacher in Spanish. Plans to move to a Spanish speaking country next year to persue her dreams. Sometimes our “BEST” children need to see something and read positive on the social media………..O yea..tell me to go to “Oprah” , but it’s all good. Mind you, I find Bernews very entertaining I the connection to my overseas fam & BFF for a laugh……….

          • :-I says:

I’m hoping your grandchild is enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree distance learning program because Bermuda College is a two-year program and if she’s been there for four years she has wasted two more years of her time and should have graduated two years prior….

  16. haha_my silly brothers says:

The parents, thats whats wrong! they should have been entitled to free money and land! if the gov gave them free money and some land, and a mule of course, then this fight would never had happened. oh, wait, then give them $1000 a month too, just for being them……

    • Street talk says:

Wow. Now that’s some real idiotic racist thinking at it’s best.

  17. Emeka47 says:

CCTV, then why are they not been arrested? Young women fighting in a brawl! No Class, No respect most likely No education. Where are the parents of these crazy people?? Something really needs to be done to send a STRONG MESSAGE to those lot (A few hundred of these gang members, disturbing and distroying Bermuda’s reputation). Soon good people won’t be able to go out and enjoy themselves. The police need to get on this asap, the court should not give a ‘slap on the wrist, or a conditional discharge, when they say …..I’m sorry” Sorry my A$$ .. Don’t black people have enough issues to deal with! DANG!
Businesses like Ice Queen and other 24 hour establishments need some big hefty guards.

  18. Organic Bermudian says:

I say if you stay open late like this install the little windows you see at some of the gas stations in other parts of the world. You request a product, it is fetched and you pay ALL done through the slip draw.!!!

  19. In Mark's opinion says:

Lets see the video , so those people can be named and found .

  20. Spectators Corner says:

They wont respect the gaurds no matter how big they are .A gaurd is only a watch dog with no bite.If any security gaurd around Bermuda does anything to try and stop one of these fights then he stands a good chance of getting hurt or killed, and if all else fails, in court trying to justify why he felt it necessary to use accesive force to get control of the situation. Oh goody,I want that job…..not.
MIDNITE CURFEW.. Thats right. All establishments that serve alcahol to close at mdnight or before. When all the owners and venders and patrons and anyone that gains any sort of profit or pleasure from these places come up with some solutions, and only then will we be able to enjoy a night life again. They go every where with these nasty attitudes and destroy the vibe. Promoters need to start putting on events earlier in the day or evenings with more lighting, less volume and maybe we can come a little closer to mending the social fabric of this place I love and call HOME….

    • Scott says:

      lol midnight curfew???

… so the fight will happen at 1215 instead of 230???

  21. Emeka47 says:

Why should the business owners have to close early, what us thepatrons? Bootsie’s closed, others will follow, DO NOT GIVE IN TO THESE ‘CRAZY”S” still roaming the street like pack of dogs. OHhhh…I miss, Senator Burch. Drag those sorry A$$ children and their dysfunctonal young parents to Court. He said, make the parents responsible, but everyone became upset, so this is what you get! And ..MOM and DAD, it was cute to have a baby at 15 or 16 years old, Well those CUTE babies are STILL yours, why we (the public) dealing your DUMB children. Get off your cell phones, Facebook and raise your damn, children. You gave up your right to freedom when they were born. The 24HR ESSO, should sue you all. Make them pay for every broken item, loss of revenu etc. This has to stop! IMA just wondering, if any of that bunch have children, if so who is caring for their children…….OMG a repetitive cycle.

    • observer says:

I get what the Spectators Corner is saying about closing early. This forces peopel to pull up their socks if the y want change. Right now they are all about the almighty dollar and dont really care if the violence continues becuase they have still made a profit. Makes no sense cutting down someone elses suggestion if you dont have a better one…

      • Emeka47 says:

Not cutting down the suggestion, only making a point ” that’s all we do is givein to these Crazy Illmannered youth” Soon there will be no football, parades, night clubs, heritage parades, cup match, beach events, concerts in the park, etc” They already have control of the Hamilton ‘bus depot’ We cannot shut down Bermuda because of them. When are we, the people going to say enough is enough! Nothing to do with the $$$, but as good citizens we have a right to travel anywhere without being victimized or afaid for our life. .

  22. .... says:

From New York …. Keepin up with Bermudas news for the past 7 years.. its gettin foolish there just how it been over here for many years aswell!!.. Govt need to sto;p spending money on the wrong thing and tend to the main cause…. Make more jobs and create another trade school! as for the gang thing there, seem like all that park gang whatever they’re called , get off of alot.. Must assist the feds i guess…….. well u k no what they say happens to snitchers or what ever they call em’ . lol how 10 people fight and no1 get arrested. sh*t i bet if it was any other gng the man be all ova there sht

  23. .... says:

y not put a cctv footage of it so the public can help since that all the feds can do since they cant solve things and put the wrong ppl away!! the nasty cops out there to that allow it to happen and carry on.. cant jus blame the black youth!! wtf

  24. Geronimo of the West says:

Other than drink after 9:30-10:00 What is it for a Bermudian to do on a weekend or any other night? But then again the youth have been so damaged here we dont know how to have fun any more… From the start of CBA to Ms Johnson telling the little 8,9 &10 year old kids to STOP PLAYING IN HER YARD. Or the Police being called on 14-20 year olds that are playing football on a school field and havent PAYED MONEY for it. The older generation cannot even imagine how damaged the youth are!

  25. liars says:

the outcome…government OR BIU will now make the gas stations pay for security (blaming them for this because they stay open late) inevitably making the small man (us) pay for it indirectly (gas prices etc will go higher) thus the spiral or vortex spins out of control in a desending manner to the point that the judge (in todays/yesterday regarding Customs and drugs) will now be rewarding these guys for fighting outside of the bars. And the BIU will say its everybody else’s fault, the premier won’t say anything at all….Kim Wilson will be on the front page….Zane will be drunk at the yacht club….and we will be sitting here doing F@#K all about it, instead of taking our country back!

I saw Trevor Moniz and Shawn Crockwell today at Herring Bay Market place…l think they were trying to drum up voters or something. To me, they were syanding there looking at everybody that didn’t know they were and shaking their heads, not good. They didn’t do or say anything, as if they were there to have you bow down to them because they think they are the only people that have half a brain or something?

We are in a state and there is no end to this unless everybody works together.

But we’re in Bermuda, so forget that idea!

  26. Velerie says:

It’s a sign of the times. When these young men were young and acting out, nobody considered the ramification of not dealing with their behavior then. And since some will politicize this, its not a PLP issue. It goes back further, before their time when the needs of black people were put in the background, didn’t have equal opportunities, when there was a lack of alternative educational facilities for those who were not college material and a lack of efforts to promote social skills and pride in our country.

I always look at how the Jews raise their children and the Chinese (although they are becoming more Westernized now). These cultures train their children from very young and cultivate from very young their standards and beliefs into their children’s characters.

As Bermudians we teach our children not to express themselves from very young by telling them to shut up when they cry or hit them to make them stop instead of dealing with the issue of why they are crying because we don’t have the patience. We teach them to suppress who they are instead of teaching them how to channel their efforts and express themselves in a healthy way from young. We think that when they start cursing at 4 years old, its cute until it becomes a problem and too late to change their behavior. Surely if 4 year olds can learn to curse, they can start to be taught to go in the right direction.

I think part of the solution is to reach and teach the boys and girls before they understand about having babies and offer counseling and support for parents who have problem children to help save our future generations.

    • don't think so says:

      @ Velerie

As for yout first paragraph .. BS ! !

      Utter BS

      Stop passing the buck.
Many years back , when whites could see the trouble looming on the horizon and dared speak of it they were branded as racists and shouted down. So what did they do ? They said ‘f**k it’ .. you created the problem with willy nilly breeding , now you can sort it out.
Well , you all didn’t want to stop having fun , fun , fun .. And here we are now. Start cleaing up your own mess .

      • Street talk says:

Typical white person with no commen sense of understanding the lgn term effect of slavery/discrimination and institutionalized racism. You think were just weak as race but have no idea of the strUggle. You are like many others who are closet racist and generalize all black people by 20 youth that go around starting trouble every week.

        • don't think so says:

Didn’t know you could see through your computer and tell if a poster is white or not … Yet another person who thinks all whites think one way and blacks wouldn’t dare utter anything in agreement .

First off , it’s not ’20′ or so youths causing all this trouble.
          (denial number one)

Secondly stop hanging on to historical references.. Do you really believe that everytime a black kid (or adult) does something irresponsible , misguided and in very poor judgement in the back of their mind is a reference to slavery or some boogeyman white image making them do it ?
          (denial number two)

And if Bermuda is such a terrible place for blacks how come black tourists can’t believe that there’s any black poverty here ..How come they wish they could stay and get a bite of the cherry here too ?

          • Sick n tired says:

Don’t u just love ignorance! Very well said, I’m sick n tired of sayin anything about this madness. The past will forever haunt the white people of today that had nothing to do with it and actually love ‘all’ people!

I don’t see any answers to these thugs n their thug life no matter what color they r…..

    • Pastor Syl says:

@ Velerie: You make some valid points regarding the lack of a trade school. Technical Institute was closed by the UBP and to date, we don’t have a replacement – so both parties have something to answer for.

People, Bermudians in particular, need to learn the value of tears. They are the body’s way of getting rid of toxic chemicals like cortisol and adreniline that are produced in the brain when we become frightened or sad. It is important to cry. Suppression of tears, like suppression of any emotion, eventually leads to an inability to feel any emotion except anger/rage – a very unhealthy state. When you cannot feel because your own emotions have been suppressed, you cannot have empathy for others. That is at least a part of why we are in this state today. We teach our children that it is not OK to cry as a response to feeling sad, disappointed or hurt, so how can they then have concern for others who are sad or hurt?
When children cry, they need comfort. Comfort isn’t spoiling, it is helping a child feel safe. They are very small beings in a very large and often unfriendly and frightening world. Yelling at them, or doing other things to “toughen them up” often ends up giving us more folk who have to fight and intimidate to show how tough they are.
I realize there are so many more causative factors that impact on our present social scene, but it is all linked.

  27. get out of bermy!! says:

    Stupid ass Bermudians!!!

  28. Rumandcoke says:

Make the CCTV public and name and shame those involved…

  29. Velerie says:

    @don’t think so

I may have once had that same attitude until I developed some compassion for people who are just not aware that they are their own worst enemies because they just don’t know any better. I am of the school now that says it takes a village to raise a child and those that have knowledge and are capable are obligated to teach those that don’t know. If they don’t want to listen then our conscience is clear.

I am not blaming the “white man” because I believe that when we become of age we make our own decisions but if the resources are not there to help us break free of the “slave mentality” then we will continue to live in that mode of thinking. The resources were not there back then and are questionable now.

This is my home, MINE and I’m not going to stand by and say “stupid Bermudians” because I am one and I’m not going to down myself. It’s this kind of comment that’s helped to create the problem in the first place. Neither am I going to say “well they made their bed, let them lie in it” because that kind of thinking is ignorant because taking no action is going to allow the situation to get worse. And like it or not, we all have to participate in being part of the solution.

    • Pastor Syl says:

@ Velerie: I am with you, Sister (black or white, if you are Bermudian, you are my sister). When each of us takes personal responsibility for this current situation, then we will see some change. As long as it is “them” creating the problem or being the problem, whether it’s white folks, gangs, black folks, the UBP, the PLP. or some other “them”, we have no power to make change. We cannot fix anybody else. It is only when we take a problem on as our own that we can make a difference.

    • Village Mom says:

That was exactly the thought process we need as a society! In this instance, I am told from a first hand account, that two young patrons (one male and one female) were the victims of a wrestless group of young adult males, blocking the entrance, lurking in the establishment, waiting for “who knows what”. Unfortunately these two young people entered the wrong place, at the wrong time, became easy prey and were forced to defend themselves against clearly insurmountable odds.

While we as a country are trying to fix the problem of violence by some of our youth, and others, we also need to teach our unsuspecting children and young adults that this is not the Bermuda their parents or even they knew only a few short years ago. Teach them to be vigilent and assess their environment at all times, know who is in their front and their rear, and avoid large groups where the situation looks suspect and stay off the streets after hours. Today it was bumps and bruises, tomorrow it could be another one of our children’s lives lost senselessly.

The days of “He who turns and walks away, lives to fight another day” (figuratively speaking) doesn’t work any more. That’s what I taught. How wrong I was. Your chances of being safe are much greater if you do not approach these suspicious situations to begin with. Today, the young adults who want to be recognized for being “tough”, “down”, “one of the crew”, “gang material” have no intention of letting you walk away. Our children are their ticket in. While we are raising our children to be respectable, contributors of society, be it a challenge or not, also teach them to be circumspect and vigilent regarding their personal safety… It could save their lives.

  30. OMFING (oh my effin God) says:

Parkside got beat up by a girl lmao!
thats besides the point, tisk tisk

  31. Feel the LOVE says:

@ Don’t think so: how dear you even utter words of STUPIDITY? Sounds to me like you dont know your BLACK history! Sounds to me like you dont know the struggle Blacks of this nation and of this country went through to fight for the equality of the people! Sounds to me like you don’t have one BLACK friend (male or female) who has genuinely made mistakes in life! Sounds to me like you never had or have “fun, fun, fun!” Sounds to me like you don’t want to be a part of the solution but rather sit back and observe the mess that the BLACK people need to clean up…RIGHT?! I’m going on in a rant because to me you sound UNeducated, injudicious, racist and without any morals.

I totally agree with Velerie! I say if our young men and women were brought up knowing their deep rooted BLACK HISTORY, WHITE HISTORY, ALL HISTORY, then our people wouldnt be in the sort of mess their in now. If our education and Parents were to instill, intill, instill INTELLIGENCE plus CHARACTER into their/ OUR children then our world, OUR BERMUDA would be a better place. I say OUR children because yet again, I agree with Velerie- IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO RAISE A CHILD! PARENTS must educate and communicate the truths of the past and of OUR ANCESTORS. IF this was the case our youths our people would respect the struggle and the persons who helped to fight for OUR freedoms. IF this was the case then the brotherhood and LOVE that we have entrenched in our souls would shine over our community. Over our BERMUDA.

Maybe the issue with our people is that we are gifted with reason (good), BUT no morals (bad)! I say what I’ve stated above because this is a mere part of the solution that can help to nurture and rebuild our community.

    P.S. I’m 22.
    feel the love!

  32. Velerie says:

Kudos, to you feel the love. My hat off to you for being so insightful for someone of a young age.

“Don’t think so” is an example, I believe, of a person who just doesn’t know and needs to be enlightened because he sees one side of the story. He says that white people spoke out and got shouted down. I ask, what were they saying? Is it possible they got shouted down because all they did was criticize instead of offering a solution. Is it possible they spoke out, from a place of fear and concern for themselves? If anyone speaks out from a concern for others and is willing to back it up with action, the time will come where others will have no other choice but to respect their stand and see the good they are trying to do. White people may have spoken out, but black people had to fight AND suffer to get ahead.

“Don’t think so” says that we didn’t want to stop having fun, fun, fun. Do you think black people were the only ones having fun, fun, fun. White people were doing that too. Their children were having babies out of wedlock, getting into trouble, using drugs and involved in homosexuality. The only difference between white and black is that the white people had the financial resources to hurry their children off the island to hide or “rehabilitate” them. Their deeds were swept under the carpet. Including when the white husbands indulged in “extracurricular activity” with the black maids in the middle of the night.

So please don’t throw out that the white folks did something great when they spoke out and were shouted down. It wasn’t enough! And to show that it was just a smoke screen, they shut down the technical school, among other things.

When the public school system started to deteriorate, instead of doing something to try and fix it, the white folks took their children out and sent them to boarding schools or private schools.

“Don’t think so” is right about one thing and that is we need to stop looking at the past. We only need look at it to ensure we don’t repeat the same mistakes and to learn from them.

  33. Surprised? says:

The baby mamas baybays are wild and onthe loose now That they have come of age!

  34. Unbelievable says:

For all of you that believe the problem begins with the youth are as ignorant as they are. If your foundation is made from sand, how do you expect a strong structure to be created? Impossible I would imagine. These youths are left to raise themselves, solve their own problems and learn of life from wherever you can which is only a recipe for disaster. Our tv shows, movies, music, etc. are all corrupt nowadays, our political parties are like gangs themselves who fight publically with the opposing political gangs all the time. Our police officers are like an army ready to go to battle with our troubled youth. How is that to solve the issue? It doesn’t solve anything; it only escalates the tension. Many of them are from single parent homes who many time than not, has an employed mother working multiple jobs just to pay the high cost of living in Bermuda which can very well be traced back to our previous government selling us out to international companies. Fingers can be pointed in many directions for many different reasons. But I would challenge you to answer this…can you really fight fire with fire? Or if you continuously keep sweeping dirt under your rug, do you think the dirt will just magically disappear? Think about it people. And stop being so quick to put OUR PROBLEM off on the individual and realize that many had a part to play in this domino effect we still see falling today.

  35. Village Mom says:

Please, stop giving these gangs credit for every incident that occurs… They do not need any help becoming what they are or doing what they do. Please!!!!!

  36. Feel the LOVE says:

@ Dont think so and OTHERS like you: Shut up about, “hanging on to historical references!” We NEED to hang on to our history. We need to take the time out to know our history.

How is one to progress if we dont know where were coming from?

Of course the issue of race and of history is going to come up EVERY time. Of course, because the truth of the matter is we have to struggle day in and night out. The truth of the matter is there is still racism and slavery going on. Maybe not in the form of whips and chains but in other ways.

P.s. By the way do you know your history?

    Feel the LOVE!
