Bill To Create Immigration Appeals Tribunal
The Bermuda Immigration and Protection Amendment Act 2011 passed in the Senate yesterday [Aug.3]. The Bill paves the way to establish an immigration appeals tribunal.
Previously in the House of Assembly, National Security Minister Wayne Perinchief said the Bill “creates an independent and impartial Immigration Appeals Tribunal, separate from the Executive to determine and hear all appeals against decisions of the Minister currently available to applicants by virtue of the principal Act.”
The Chairman and Deputy Chairman will be lawyers of at least five years standing, and additional members will form the total pool to hear appeals as required. The members of the Tribunal will be appointed by the Minister after consultation with the Premier.
