Gambling Ship Crew Seeking Lost Wages

Pablo Riera, his son Pablo Jr. and Juan Aleman – the three crew members of the gambling ship ‘Niobe Corinthian’ – will be seeking judgment for lost wages in the Supreme Court on August 3, 2011.

The Workers Voice reported in the July 22, 2011 issue that the ‘Niobe Corinthian’ will be auctioned by the Provost Marshall on August 3, 2011. In fact the boat will not be auctioned on that date – the three crew members, Pablo Riera, captain, his son, Pablo Jr. and Juan Aleman, will be seeking judgment for lost wages in the Supreme Court on August 3, 2011. As the Workers Voice only publishes once a month, they asked if clarification could be made through other mediums.

The Niobe Corinthian [interior pictured above] planned to slip through a loophole in Bermuda’s laws which prohibit gambling by taking customers off-shore. The plan never really came to fruition due to various issues including legal matters, a fire, and the logistics of the trip into international waters, where gambling would be legal. The boat remained at the dock, and the ships owners continued to employ the ships crew, although apparently did not pay their wages.
