Tropical Storm Emily Forms In Atlantic
Tropical Storm Emily formed in the Atlantic last night [Aug.1], and is presently about 245 miles southeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico, traveling west at 16 miles per hour. The storm is the fifth named storm of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season.
According to the update issued by the U.S. National Hurricane Center today, Emily has maximum sustained winds of almost 40 miles per hour. The graphic below is courtesy of the Weather Underground:
Tropical storm warnings were issued for Puerto Rico, Guadeloupe and the Dominican Republic, while Tropical storm watches were issued for the U.S. Virgin Islands and Haiti.
The Bermuda Weather Service said it is still too early to say whether Tropical Storm Emily will have any impact on Bermuda, but that is not a threat at the moment.
