Court: CCTV Records Paraquet & BAC Burglar

September 2, 2011

In Magistrates Court this morning [Sept.2], 49-year-old Sonny Bell pleaded guilty to two charges of burglary; breaking into the Paraquet restaurant in Paget and the Bermuda Air Conditioning offices in Pembroke. Paraquet had been broken into on 23rd August, while BAC was invaded on 28th August.

In stating the Crown’s evidence, DPP Prosecutor Cindy Clarke said that before both break-ins the companies had their alarm systems disabled. In both instances, the break-ins occurred at night during the period after work had ceased and before workers returned in the morning.

In each case Mr Bell’s actions had been captured on the several CCTV cameras that continued to operate independently of the disabled alarm systems.

These CCTV cameras, some capturing and preserving images in full colour, had carefully recorded all of Mr Bell’s actions as he roamed about the premises stealing cigarettes and cash and other items.

The cameras were able to detail the colours and styles of the clothing that Mr Bell had worn and the kind of item that he had used in attempts to conceal his identity.

Mr Bell was soon found and arrested by Police. There, Police found a bag that, amongst other things, contained the clothing and other items that had been captured on CCTV. Mr Bell was taken into custody and, this morning, appeared dressed in a blue jumpsuit.

Asked by the Magistrate if he had anything to say, Mr Bell asked for a Social Inquiry Report on himself. Magistrate Archie Warner acceded to his request, ordered an S.I.R. and also ordered that he should remain in custody until 17th October when he returns to Court to hear the S.I.R. and receive his sentence.

Please show the footage . I can only imagine what a two legged rat looks like in action , snooping and sniffing all over the crime scene . Maybe if the authorities showed the footage it would make other fools think twice about doing their disgusting deeds .
As for S.I.R Denied ! ! How about a victim impact report and a perp walk through the business while customers are shopping and eating . That S.I.R rings my Bell .

Don’t these clowns realize that there are CCTV surveillance cameras EVERYWHERE in Bermuda these days – and people who watch them. You’d think the crims would have learned by now.

Take a gander at the photo in the link below if you want to see how far surveillance imaging technology has come.
