Police: Counterfeit $100 Bills Circulating

September 19, 2011

The Police have warned the public that there is counterfeit money presently in circulation on the island, particularly Bermuda $100 bills, and issued a reminder that it is a criminal offence to pass to another, possess, make or reproduce any counterfeit currency.

A police spokesperson said, “The Bermuda Police Service would like to warn the public about counterfeit Bermuda $100 notes. This denomination of fake currency was recently tendered at a couple of businesses over the weekend.”

“The public should be aware that genuine currency has the following security features: watermarks, a security thread and images that can only be seen under an ultra-violet light.”

“For more information, please visit www.police.bm and select Counterfeit Currency. Anyone with any information about counterfeit currency is encouraged to contact the main Police number on 295-0011.”
