Swimming: BASA Confirm New Record Holders

The Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association has confirmed several Short and Long Course records set recently.

Short Course Records

At the Junior National Championships, Jack Thorpe, Finn Moseley, Matthew Nagel and Jack Harvey set a new Male 8 and Under – 4 x 25m Freestyle Relay Record clocking 1:30.20 breaking the old record of 1:31.84 that was set on July 11th, 2009 by J. Moseley, A. Budge, E. Farrow and R. Stocek.

Moseley, Harvey, Nick Pilgrim and Jack Thorpe set a new Male 8 and Under – 4 x 25m Medley Relay record with a time of 1:44.55. The old record of 1:46.29 was set on July 11th, 2009 by E. Farrow, A. Budge, J. Moseley and R. Stocek.

Long Course Records

At the XXVII CCCAN, in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico Lisa Blackburn broke the Female Open – 50m Breaststroke Record with a time of 0:34.23. The old record of 0:34.56 was set on July 1st, 2004 by Anastasia Lau. Blackburn also broke the Female Open – 100m Breaststroke record clocking 1:13.23, Jennifer Smatt set the old record of 1:13.94 back in July 1992.

Blackburn is now the Female Open – 200m Breaststroke Record holder after she was clocked at 2:40.01, breaking the old record of 2:42.25 set in July 1992 by Smatt. Blackburn then broke her own Record in the Female Open – 200 IM with a time of 2:25.56, Blackburn’s old record of 2:27.02 was set on April 17th.

Ashley Yearwood is now the Female 15-16 – 50m Butterfly Record Holder clocking 0:29.50, she broke her own record of 0:29.72 which she set on April 24th.

Jesse Washington’s time of 0:29.66 sees him as the new Male 11-12 – 50m Butterfly Record holder, breaking the old record of 0:31.02 he set on April 24th.

Several records was set at the North Baltimore Mid-Summer Classic. Emma Harvey holds the Female 9-10 – 50 Breaststroke Record with a time of 0:46.72, breaking Brittany Siddle’s time of 0:48.62 set July 9th.

Ashley Irby’s time of 1:40.31 sees her as the Female 9-10 – 100 Breaststroke Record Holder, bettering the mark set by Harvey of 1:42.54 on July 11th.

Harvey also holds the Female 9-10 – 100 Backstroke Record after she finished with a time of 1:27.87, she broke Irby’s record of 1:28.85 set July 10th.

Irby broke her own Female 9-10 – 200 Backstroke Record when she clocked 3:10.30, breaking the time of 3:12.49 set May 14th; while Harvey holds the Female 9-10 – 50 Butterfly Record clocking 0:36.25, she broke Yearwood’s old record of 0:36.57 set July 3rd, 2005.

Harvey also holds the Female 9-10 – 100 Butterfly Record after she clocked 1:25.79, she broke the old record of 1:26.36 set by Yearwood on May 8th, 2005. Then Harvey became the Female 9-10 – 200 IM Record holder when she swam a time of 3:05.16, breaking Irby’s time of 3:09.36 set July 10th.

Tyler Smith set a New Bermuda Record in the Male 11-12 – 1500 Freestyle when he touched the line clocking 19:30.02.

At the 14th FINA World Championships, Shanghai, China, Roy-Allan Burch broke his own record in the Male Open – 50m Freestyle when he clocked a time of 0:22.69. This broke his old record of 0:23.10 set in July 2009, he then broke his own record in the Male Open – 100m Freestyle clocking 0:51.01, breaking the old record of 0:51.68 he set in July 2009.

Julian Fletcher is now the Male Open – 50m Breaststroke Record Holder following his time of 0:29.11, breaking his old record of 0:29.56 set on July 28th, 2009.
