Tropical Storm Maria “Potential Threat”

[Updated] The Bermuda Weather Service said that Tropical Storm Maria is a “potential threat” to Bermuda, and its closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 333 nm to the south-west at 12pm on Wed, Sep 14, 2011.

“Tropical Storm Maria is expected to reach hurricane status as it moves a few hundred miles to the southwest by Wednesday night. Increased showers and strong winds are expected to arrive ahead of Maria by early Wednesday and continue into a good portion of Thursday,” said the BWS.

Update Sept.12 3.30pm: The BWS now says that Maria’s closest point of approach to Bermuda within 72 hrs is forecast to be 137 nm to the west north-west at 6am on Thursday, September 15th.
