Hamilton Walkers “Take Back The Night”

October 29, 2011

About 20 participants slipped into their walking shoes and helped the Bermuda Women’s Resource Centre “Take Back The Night” last night [Oct.28].

The event got underway at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Victoria Park.

“It’s a symbolic walk to remind us of women’s right to walk safely at night and a walk to remember those we have lost to domestic violence,” said a Women’s Resource Centre spokesman. ” It’s an international event which has been held around the world since 1976.

“It’s a walk to increase community awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault. And it’s a walk to express the Bermuda community’s commitment to ending violence.”

These Ladies do a tremendous job. God bless them

The men now….they need a consultant.

You don’t see them marching in the streets.

I wonder why. Ponder that before you comment.

20 women show up for the walk, no men. Pretty pitiful turnout if you think about it. It is not like it was 30 degrees & snowing. Typical of Bermuda though. Sit back & let somebody else do the work…then complain.

Uh, yes I have taken part in a number of protests.

I had no idea this was taking place. I applaud all who took part, but where was the advertising/media call for attendees? This is exactly the kind of citizen action on key issues that Bermuda needs. Let us know about them in advance so we can turn out in our thousands and send a real message. Let’s face it, it’s been months since since any of our Ministers have spoken out about any of the recent crimes. They seem either out of ideas or out of touch.

It was announced several times throughout the week leading up to the event..you must have missed it.
