HSBC Spearheads Community Volunteer Week

October 28, 2011

This afternoon, the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Kim Wilson joined HSBC CEO Philip Butterfield to highlight “Community Volunteer Week”, a community service initiative being spearheaded by HSBC in the North East Hamilton Economic Empowerment Zone (NEHEEZ).

Pictured below: Minister Wilson joins Mr Butterfield in putting the finishing touches on a mural display in the North East Hamilton Economic Empowerment Zone. The murals were painted by inmates at Westgate Correctional Facility.

This past week saw Princess Terraces and other areas benefitting from the restoration efforts of around 150 HSBC employees. For your reporting purposes, please find attached a copy of Minister Wilson’s remarks and photos from today’s event.

We all know Butterfield in his work shirt and pants had an empty paint jar and a dry brush! Everyone else did all the work!

Kudos to HSBC for their community service — every afternoon for a week. A different group of HSBC staff came out each afternoon to make community improvements. Thank you! This required a whole lot of organizing and time spent by EEZ staff, plus the volunteer artists, and other volunteers who contributed to the two mural projects and the Princess Terraces project — a real collaboration for the benefit of the people who live and work and pass through this part of town.
