Lisa Blackburn Preps For Pan Ams
Lisa Blackburn discusses her training and preparation for the upcoming Pan American Games as well as her goals for an Olympic qualifying time.
Lisa said, “I last attended the Pan American Games in 2003 and the atmosphere was electric! I am really looking forward to the Pan Ams again as I hope my experience this year will be just as exciting and enjoyable”.
Talking about her training for the event she stated, “I have just returned from a 2-week training camp in San Diego where I swam up to 11km per day with the University of Bath/British Intensive Training Squad. The camp included up to 2 swim and 1 dry-land training sessions per day along with Pilates and core work once per day. It was great to train with a group of Olympians and aspiring Olympians who are focused and work hard on a daily basis. The camp has invigorated my training regime and my commitment to qualifying for next year’s Olympic Games and I feel that I have improved my swimming by attending this camp.”
As for the actual competition Lisa commented, “I am going into the Pan Am Games without any expectations with regards to placing or times, just as I did at the recent Caribbean Championships. I am always aspiring to making the Olympic qualifying time and improving my National records in the breaststroke and IM events, but will remain focused on the process rather than on the end result. I am looking forward to representing Bermuda again and having a positive experience at these Games.”
