PLP Acknowledge Passing of Cecil Clarke
The PLP said they are “saddened to learn of the passing” of former PLP Member of Parliament Cecil V. Clarke, who recently passed away in Guyana where he has resided for a number of years. Their full statement follows below:
The Progressive Labour Party is saddened to learn of the passing of former PLP Member of Parliament, Mr. Cecil V. Clarke. Mr. Clarke passed away in Guyana where he has resided for a number of years.
Mr. Clarke was among the original PLP MCPs (Members of the Colonial Parliament) following the party’s formation in 1963, along with Mr. Arnold A. Francis (Party Leader), Mr. Walter N. H. Robinson (Deputy Leader), Mrs. Lois Browne-Evans (Bermuda’s first black elected woman Member of Parliament) Mr. Russell Dismont, and Mrs. Dorothy Thompson.
Additionally, he was among the PLP delegation that participated in the Bermuda Constitutional Conference that was held in London during the fall of 1966.
Mr. Clarke was the son of Mrs. Trew Wright Robinson, former owner of Hillcrest Guest House in St. George’s. He was also the brother of former PLP MP Mr. Delaey Robinson, Mrs. Sonja T. Robinson and Mr. John Clarke. He is survived by four children, Darrell, Rene, Keith and Mitzi Williams.
