Bermuda Gets Trumped Again

Due to popular demand, there will be another Bermuda screening of “You’ve Been Trumped”, Anthony Baxter’s documentary about how a group of Scottish homeowners take on celebrity tycoon Donald Trump over his plans to develop one of Britain’s very last stretches of wilderness.

Following its sellout success at the Bermuda Docs film festival earlier this year, organisers will be screening the film again on Sunday, December 4 at 3 p.m. at the Tradewinds Auditorium at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute.

The film tells the story of how the flamboyant Donald Trump only needed to buy out a few more locals to make his dream of a luxury home, hotel and golf course development in Scotland come true.

The proposal should have been dismissed out of hand — the New York developer was eyeing a protected conservation area.

But after the Scottish government — desperate to bring jobs to the region — overturned its own environmental laws to give Mr. Trump the green light, the stage was set for an extraordinary summer of discontent as the bulldozers spring into action.

Funny, inspiring and heartbreaking in turns, the film that the “Toronto Star” called “a shattering chronicle of greed,hubris and stupidity” is both an entertaining can’t-believe-it’s-true tale and an environmental parable for our celebrity-driven times.
