Chamber Names Joanne MacPhee As EVP

The Bermuda Chamber of Commerce has appointed Joanne MacPhee to the position of executive vice president.

In making the announcement today [Nov.15], the Chamber’s interim president Buddy Rego noted: “We are delighted to welcome Joanne to our team.

“Joanne has over 28 years of experience in the local market and will bring a wealth of knowledge and energy to the Chamber.”

Mr. Rego went on to say: “The Chamber is currently going through a significant period of transition with changes at both the Board and staff levels and I am very pleased we have Joanne on board to help us steer a new course.”

Last week Chamber President Stephen Todd resigned from the apolitical business advocacy group so he could stand as a Parliamentary candidate for the Progressive Labour Party.

Mrs. MacPhee, who is a Bermudian, has had a varied career, starting out first as a broadcaster with DeFontes Broadcasting Company back in 1981. From there Mrs. MacPhee went on to have a successful career in advertising and public relations.

In 1998 she was appointed marketing manager at the Bermuda Stock Exchange and in 2002 she joined KPMG where she was promoted to senior manager, Marketing & Communications.

Upon accepting the appointment Mrs. MacPhee stated: “I am very excited about taking on the responsibility for guiding the Chamber and its membership through these difficult financial times. ‘Go Local’ has never had more meaning and context than it does today and I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.”

With the Christmas shopping period now upon us Mrs. MacPhee and the dedicated Chamber team will be particularly focused on supporting local retailers, bars and restaurants as they look for more favourable returns after a disappointing year thus far.

Mrs. MacPhee has plans to launch a major “Go Local” campaign in the New Year to help generate much needed funds to support all of the Chambers active divisions.
