Concern Over State Of Evans Bay Dock

November 16, 2011

Users of Southampton’s Evans Bay dock are becoming increasingly concerned about the safety of the dock and are asking Government to undertake repairs.

Most recently the dock has eroded to the point of potentially collapsing and is clearly unsafe, one area resident told Bernews.

“The issue has been brought to the attention of Government,” said the resident. “Hopefully it will be fixed soon before someone gets seriously hurt.”

A Ministry of Public Works spokesperson said, “The damage to Evans Bay Dock was caused by a private contractor’s barge colliding with the dock. The Ministry of Public Works is currently assessing the damage as well as the contractor’s liability and hopes to have the repairs carried out as soon as possible.”

    They should call Correia Construction.

this dock was deteriorating well before the barge damaged it….just another case of infrastructure neglect….. just take a ride down front street.

      • Can't Take It Anymore says:

Or a classic case of the infrastructure not being properly built from the get go, as this can be seen from much older docks that have had the same wear and tear and are in still in operable condition.

EPIC FAIL! This is where Bermuda really needs to invest its money. During recessionary times the one sure thing a country can invest in, is its aging infrastructure. Repair, re-knew and rebuild. I found this a a very good read and insightful. The recession won’t last forever. http://pressoffice.mg.co.za/pragma/PressRelease.php?StoryID=224140
