Photos: Children’s Reading Festival A Success
Sponsored by the Bermuda Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, and despite Saturday’s [Nov.5] continually threatening weather, the twelfth annual Children’s Reading Festival happened at Victoria Park.
By 3:30pm, 825 children had been ticketed into the park. Including adults, and by closing time, about 2,000 people will have attended this annual event.
Pictured below is Nelson Bascome Jr and his eight year-old son Nekoda with Nekoda’s artwork and seven year-old Vincent Darrell showing off his glittery quick tattoo and free book.

With its concentration on reading, there were lots of books in evidence. On entering, each child was given a wristband which entitled him or her to one free book at the book giveaway stand. At that stand, giveaway books went from pre-schooler up to P4.
Video of two year-old Maya Deegan looking just a bit bewildered after her Dad had lifted her across the railings into the centre of the 114 year-old Victoria Park bandstand where the DJ was playing ‘kiddie music’.
Inside Victoria Park, with age-appropriate music playing, bouncy castles going, quick but not permanent tattoo-ing, a creative arts stand, library sign-up tent, and popcorn and soft drinks, there was lots for children to do and see and hear. Outside the park on Washington Street, there were three food stalls, so they could eat too.

Well Done Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc, this is an important event. What an important message you have given to young people. It helps to encourage our young people to develop a love for reading. What a wonderful day and opportunity to explore the exciting world of “Books”. Well Done !!
Well done Ladies of Delta Digma Theta! Its great to see that this annual event has continued even in tough economic times! Its a excellent event for our young people and the community. Keep up the good work!
