Man Threatened Police With Pitchfork
In Magistrates Court this morning [Nov.16], 59-year-old Mustafa Hadee Abdul pleaded guilty to a charge of using threatening words to Police, with the Court hearing Mr Abdul threatened to push a pitchfork into a Police officer’s stomach.
The incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday 15th November 2011. DPP Prosecutor Susan Mulligan told Senior Magistrate Archie Warner that responding to a call about excessive smoke from burning vegetation; Police had gone to Mr Abdul’s Hermitage Road residence.
On arrival, they had told Mr Abdul that the burning was illegal and that he must extinguish the fire.
The Prosecutor said that Mr Abdul, who at that point had a pitchfork in his hands, responded to Police by saying: “I ain’t outing no fire” and “I’ll push this into your stomach.”
The evidence continue that Mr Abdul then actually put the pitchfork down, and sought to move away. When Police approached him, he pulled his hands away and went towards another tool. Police used Captor Spray to subdue him, and then put handcuffs on him.
Mr Abdul, who was described as a fisherman, carpenter, and farmer, explained that before setting the trash pile alight, he had called the Fire Service to tell them of his intention and that he felt that a neighbor, whose house was not even in the fire’s smokeline, had called Police.
Magistrate Warner summarized the case by saying that ”Police asked you to put out the fire and you then threatened the Police.”
Mr Abdul was fined $1,000 and was given until 16th December to pay or serve 90 days in default.
