New Security Gate Installed At Airport
The Department of Airport Operations announced today [Nov.23] the installation of a new vehicular access gate along Cahow Way, the main public entrance to the L.F. Wade International Airport.
The gate is not expected to be in use until 2012, and Airport officials said when operational, the Cahow Way Gate will help serve to eliminate the current illegal dumping of waste and bulk material, reduce the spate of random vehicle vandalism and cycle thefts, and combat a growing problem involving feral chickens and cats.

In an effort to address matters of safety and security, the Department of Airport Operations announced today the installation of a new vehicular access gate along Cahow Way, the main public entrance to the L.F. Wade International Airport.
While the Airport is not expecting to place the new barrier in active use until the New Year, when operational, the Cahow Way Gate will help serve to eliminate the current illegal dumping of waste and bulk material by contractors and members of the public in the eastern over-flow car park at night, during times when the Public Works landfill site is closed.
Having a manned security gate would also reduce the spate of random vehicle vandalism and cycle thefts that have occurred during non-operational hours in the past.
From a safety standpoint, the new entrance gate will allow Airport Operations to combat what has been a growing problem involving feral animals.
While Airport management has put other measures in place as part of its overall wildlife mitigation strategy, the installation of the new gate will assist in its efforts to prevent members of the public from feeding the growing population of feral chickens and cats that have inhabited areas surrounding the Airport’s long term car park.
These animals can pose a real threat to aircraft operations whenever they succeed in breaching the fence line.
An Airport spokesman said the Cahow Way Gate will also serve as a potential cost saving measure for the Airport. “By cordoning off the main entrance, we can potentially shut off some parking lot lighting during non-operational hours, thereby realizing modest electricity savings.
“Electricity consumption accounts for over $2 million of our annual expenditure, so any cost savings would be especially beneficial at a time when we’re all hard pressed to identify expenditure reductions,” said the spokesman.
In the coming months, the Airport will be installing new landscaping to help soften the appearance of the aluminum fenced gate.
The new controlled gate system, when activated, will provide for better security monitoring. While open during normal Airport operating hours from 5:00 am daily, it will be closed to all non-airport personnel after all passengers from the last evening flight operation have been processed and cleared.
During the Airport’s non-operational hours, the gate will be manned by security personnel to ensure access for essential services, airport personnel and emergency services when required.
The Department of Airport Operations also announced that additional traffic calming devices will be installed in the very near future, to safeguard pedestrians and other motorists from those who have been travelling along Cahow Way at excessive speeds.

If you’re hiring people to man the gate, the cost saving from turning off a few lights in the parking lot is going to be de minimus.
If its manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, try figuring out how much this little ‘make work’ project is going to cost us.
You really have to question the total intelligence level of the Pee le Pee. Is there anyone in the party who can figure out costs? Anyone?
The PLP is not about intelligence. Its about getting stupid people to ‘Carse der wote’ and keep ‘de vicked vite slave masters’ out. Yain’t figured dis out yet bra?
