Pair Charged: Stealing Almost $200k
In Plea Court this morning [Nov.30], a man and a woman were charged with stealing almost $200,000 from Wm E Meyer & Co Ltd. Both pleaded not guilty.
Initially there was confusion over whether the charges were indictable. But this was cleared up and the process went on.
The charges were that between August 2006 and March 2009, Stephen Paynter [59] and Debra Pacheco [53] had stolen cash and had defrauded Wm E Meyer & Co Ltd of $190,490.23.
A second charge was that between August 2006 and March 2009, the duo had conspired to defraud Wm E Meyer & Co Ltd.
A third charge, but this to Ms Pacheco alone, was that she had falsified records in making entries into accounts and spreadsheets at Wm E Meyer Co Ltd.
Electing for their trial to take place in Magistrates Court, trial was set for 14th March 2012. Both were bailed for $5,000 each with one Surety.
