Traffic Advisory: Late Night Shopping

The City of Hamilton reminded motorists that Reid Street from Burnaby Hill to Queen Street together with Court Street from Eilliott Street West to Victoria Street will be closed to all vehicular traffic this evening [Dec.2].

A statement issued said, “The closures will be in place from 6:00pm to 9:00pm on Friday December 2 and each Friday through to December 23. Retailers are reminded to place their garbage out each Friday by 4:30pm to ensure it is collected before 6:00pm.

“The Bulls Head shuttle service will operate during late night shopping between City Hall and Bulls Head Car Park and from the corner of Court and Dundonald Streets to Bulls Head Car Park for anyone who has their car parked there.”

    Now, wouldn’t it be nice if the garbage could be collected -like elsewhere in the world- after, say, 9 pm? That means that shoppers don’t have to witness the trucks/noise/smell/inconvenience while the stores are trying to encourage them to come in and spend money. Of course, the people working the trucks don’t want that. Too inconvenient for them; and there would be all sorts of overtime I am sure. So, we all put up with a bad situation. Do you think the men at Disney World would have their trash trucks out at prime time? Probably not.
