January 27, 2012

Bermuda-headquartered Appleby, the world’s largest provider of offshore legal and fiduciary administration services, has picked up a hat-trick of awards for its private client and trusts work.

For the second year running, Appleby has been named as one of the “Top 25 Most Admired Companies 2012″ by “Private Client Practitioner” magazine. Naomi Rive, Practice Group Head for Jersey, was also recognised as one of “Private Client Practitioner’s” 50 Most Influential for 2012.

“Private Client Practitioner” is circulated to 5000 senior practitioners and top end professionals in the private wealth management sector

Appleby has also been awarded “Caribbean Trust Company of the Year” and “Caribbean Offshore Law Firm of the Year” at the Citywealth Offshore Awards 2012, held on January 25 at The Landmark Hotel in London.

The accolades are further recognition of Appleby’s position as a leading provider of private client & trusts advice, and follow its award as “International Legal Team of the Year 2011″ at the STEP Private Client Awards 2011/12.

“The Private Client Practitioner’s” award is designed to celebrate the biggest and most successful of the private client-centric advisory businesses and is made up of law and accountancy firms, trusts companies and IFAs.

The Citywealth Offshore Awards highlight the excellence of advisers and managers in the offshore jurisdictions and were judged by an international panel of respected practitioners from all sectors with experience of working with advisers in all the jurisdictions covered.

Commenting on the awards, Carlos de Serpa Pimentel, Appleby’s Private Client and Trusts Practice Group Head said: “We are delighted to have been recognised for our work in the private client area and particularly that Naomi has been named as one of the most influential people in the private client sector, which is further testament to the hard work and dedication of our global team.”

Appleby has thriving and growing Private Client & Trusts practices in some of the most well regulated and highly regarded offshore jurisdictions for the creation of trust structures, including in Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Guernsey, Isle of Man and Jersey as well as in the major financial centres of London, Hong Kong and Zurich.

In 2004, Bermuda law firm Appleby Spurling & Kempe, in pursuit of the goal of creating a leading global offshore firm, combined with Hunter & Hunter in the Cayman Islands to become Appleby Spurling Hunter.

After establishing an office in the British Virgin Islands in 2005, it combined in 2006 with Bailhache Labesse to become Appleby Hunter Bailhache and then just Appleby.

Appleby combined with Dickinson Cruickshank to enter the Isle of Man in 2009, before opening an office to provide full legal services in Guernsey in 2010.

This formed a combined enterprise at that point of 200 lawyers and over 500 employees, including accountants, trust and corporate administrators as well as business services and support staff.
